MR Engineering Standards
Panel Discussion:  Standards for the safety and performance of clinical MR systems have been established, but at the subsystem level the case can be advanced that while MRI is a muturing technology, the standards are not keeping pace.  For example, SNR is generally compared on a qualitative basis in the literature and SAR is computed and measured on different phantoms and with different measuring apparatus.  A panel representing industry, academia, and the NIH will discuss standards in various aspects of the MRI/MRS, with audience participation.  The goal of the meeting will be to establish whether there is a need to coordinate engineering standards for the MR community much like the NIH is coordinating the development of a set of standards for software used for functional imaging.
