WEEKEND EDUCATIONAL COURSE
Body MRI by the Experts

Organizers: Clare Tempany, M.D., Bernard E. Van Beers, M.D., Ph.D., Qun Chen, Ph.D.
Skill Level: Intermediate

Saturday, 3 May 2008

Overview:

This one-day course is the first part of the week-long "Body MRI by the Experts" course.  We have selected specific topics where new and exciting clinical developments are showing interesting new clinical applications.  This session will cover new cutting edge clinical areas for the body MR clinician looking to introduce these new methods into his/her practice.

The liver imaging talks will show the impact of diffusion MRI, MR elastography, and MR quantitative imaging of fat and iron on the detection and staging of diffuse liver diseases.  The role of anatomical, functional and molecular MR on the assessment of abdominal tumors, kidney diseases, prostate and breast cancers will be shown.

Educational Objectives:

Upon completion of this course, participants should be able to:

  • Describe the impact of functional, quantitative and molecular MR in abdominal imaging;
  • Apply new body MR techniques in their practice;
  • Use multiparametric MRI for improved diagnosis of abdominal diseases;
  • Describe indications of functional and quantitative MRI in the assessment of liver, pancreas, bowel and kidney diseases;
  • Design new female pelvic and prostate protocols, introducing these methods and compare them to more conventional approaches; and
  • Appraise the indications for anatomical and functional imaging of the breasts and the lungs.

    Audience Description:

    This course is designed for intermediate level clinical radiologists, technologists, and physicists; with interests in body MRI, functional, quantitative and molecular MR, and multiparametric MRI; and 3-5 years of clinical MRI exposure or 3-5 years on MR technical applications.
