New Year’s Resolutions

Happy New Year and welcome back to “Riding the Wave to Honolulu 2017”.

I hope that everyone had a relaxing holiday and a Happy New Year, spent with family and friends. As I write this from Wisconsin, it is cold (-11°C/12°F) and there is over a foot of snow on the ground. I can’t help but think about the warm beaches and beautiful waters of Waikiki.

I also find myself thinking about New Year’s resolutions, having eaten far too much over the holidays. I imagine that many of you are in the same boat …

But we have a solution for you! Be sure to come to the ISMRM Fun Run (see sidebar) that will be held on Sunday, 23 April, the second day of the Annual Meeting. This will be a 5K run/walk through Ala Moana Park, just a few blocks from Waikiki and from the Ala Moana Convention Center, near the Honolulu waterfront. Your entry fee ($25 for student members, $50 for full members), not only gets you a t-shirt, but proceeds from the Fun Run will also go to support the ISMRM Research & Education Fund. So be sure to start your training and get in shape for a good time and to support investment in the future of our Society. The Fun Run should prove to be great way to get together with friends and colleagues from the ISMRM outside of the convention center halls. Not a runner? Walking works, too! And if running and walking are not of interest, we also need volunteers to help out (please see our recent Call for Volunteers). I will see you there!

As I think about other fun things to do in Honolulu, I am also pleased to announce that the entertainment for the Closing Party on Thursday, 27 April, has been finalized. I am pleased to announce that Willie K, an incredibly talented Hawaiian guitar virtuoso, will be entertaining us at the conclusion of the Annual Meeting. I can’t think of a better way to close the meeting with colleagues and friends after a full week of science and education. Check out Willie K’s website!

I also am excited that, for the first time, the ISMRM will provide live web streaming of the three named lectures: Lauterbur, Mansfield, NIBIB New Horizons, all of the plenary sessions and the Young Investigator Award Scientific Session. These sessions embody the very best of the Annual Meeting, and we are proud to be able to provide this free service to the world.

Okay, time to get out your running shoes and start training for the Fun Run. Keep riding the wave to Honolulu 2017.

Aloha,

Scott

The ISMRM Fun Run 2017 is sold out!

But you can still come cheer on the runners on Sunday, 23 April 2017, during the beautiful 5K run/walk in Hilton Hawaiian Village Lagoon from 05:30-07:30 (starts at 06:00). See you there!
