POSTDOCTORAL FELLOWSHIP - MRS in
Pre-clinical Cancer Models
A postdoctoral fellowship is available in the Department of
Radiology at the University of California, San Francisco working
with Drs. John Kurhanewicz and Sabrina Ronen. The fellow will be
involved in investigations of pre-clinical cancer models using MR
spectroscopy (including hyperpolarized 13C), spectroscopic imaging
and MRI to identify and validate metabolic biomarkers associated
with onset, progression, and response to treatment, of cancer.
The ideal candidate should have a strong background in magnetic
resonance spectroscopy and/or imaging with some experience in
investigations of cells, organs or animal models and an interest in
biochemistry, cell physiology and/or cancer biology.
At UCSF, the successful applicant will have access to a wide range
of dedicated and shared equipment. In particular, the High Field
Hyperpolarized NMR Facility Laboratory within the NMR Lab on the
Mission Bay Campus of the University occupies 1,660 square feet and
houses two high field (500 and 600 MHz) Varian NMR spectrometers
uniquely integrated with a HyperSense™ (Oxford Instruments) DNP
polarizer enabling bioreactor studies. Both magnets also have
complimentary features, including high-resolution magic angle
spinning (HR-MAS) spectroscopy capabilities and animal micro-imaging
capabilities. In addition several other spectrometers are available
within the facility, including 800, 600, 500 and 400 MHz
high-resolution spectrometers, as well as a 7T Varian animal scanner
and 3T and 7T GE whole body MR scanners also integrated with a
polarizer. In addition, a dedicated cell and molecular biology
laboratory of over 600 square feet is fully equipped for performing
the necessary complementary biological assays. The department also
has facilities for coil development, data analysis and modeling etc.
