MRI Specialist

This is a continuing position.

Your Challenge:

The incumbent will participate in research and development directed towards the improvement of MRI techniques (largely for neuro-related applications).  He/she will lead the development and implementation of new imaging technologies in humans, including pulse sequence programming, data acquisition and analysis methods. In collaboration with the University of Calgary, he/she will set goals for the joint research work in support of the strategic plans of the Institute and the University of Calgary. The individual will collaborate with University of Calgary researchers and other NRC-IBD researchers/groups to develop and implement imaging techniques conceived within the groups and required by University of Calgary researchers and clinical research programs. The incumbent will be provided with a budget for initiating a personal research program and will be expected to attract operating funds to maintain the program. The incumbent will interact with industrial clients/collaborators for the commercialization of developments produced within the group.


Calgary has a vibrant and growing research community and a high standard of living. The equipment available in the MRI centres includes a 3T GE, a 1.5T Siemens and a 9.4T Bruker animal system. There are strong existing research groups both in MRI science and in neuroscience. Alberta has a range of research funding options in addition to Federal programs.

Screening Criteria
Applicants must demonstrate within the content of their application that they meet the following screening criteria in order to be given further consideration as candidates:

Education:
Ph.D. in Physics, Electrical Engineering, or related area.

Experience in:
- managing research projects
- performing MRI scanner data acquisition
- computer programming
- writing grant proposals
- conducting research involving human subjects
- leading a multi-disciplinary team and managing resources is preferred

- NMR physics, NMR instrumentation and MRI/MRS techniques
- pulse sequence programming and image processing algorithms on a clinical MRI scanner

- present research results orally and in writing
- lead multi-disciplinary research projects
- manage human and financial resources

Relocation
Relocation assistance will be determined in accordance with NRC's directives.

Salary Range
Compensation is determined based on qualifications. In addition, an incumbent occupying a position within the RO/RCO Groups is currently entitled to receive a terminable allowance of $8,000 per year.
