We have an opening for a Research
Specialist to join the Surbeck Laboratory for Advanced Imaging and the
UCSF Magnetic Resonance Laboratory, part of the California Institute for
Biomedical Research Laboratories (QB3) at the new UCSF Mission Bay
campus. The shared research laboratories house state of the art magnetic
resonance instruments for imaging of tissues, characterization of
metabolic changes and disease markers and structural studies of
biomacromolecules, to enhance our understanding of biology and medicine.
Responsibilities:
The successful candidate will assist researchers collect magnetic
resonance data of biological macromolecules and biomedical tissue
samples, cells and small animals. They will be responsible for everyday
management of the laboratory and instruments by maintaining stocks of
consumables, spare parts and performing maintenance duties on the
magnetic resonance instruments.
The individual will serve as a resource
for routine 1D and 2D magnetic resonance spectroscopy experiments as
well as some imaging and data analysis. Ability to work closely with
researchers in biomedical, structural biology and biochemical research
groups, teaching and training of research associates and graduate
students in the operation of magnetic resonance instruments and basic
experiments will be essential to success.
Requirements:
A B.S. or M.S. in Biochemistry, Chemistry, Biophysics, or a related
field is required. Previous experience of magnetic resonance is an
advantage, however the candidate will receive training in the operation
of modern magnetic resonance spectrometers, standard experiments and
data analysis.
Strong computer skills and experience with unix/linux is also desirable.
Good teamwork, excellent organizational skills, and written and oral
communication skills are essential. Previous experience in teaching is
an advantage.
UCSF is an Equal Opportunity/Affirmative Action Employer. All qualified
applicants are encouraged to apply, including minorities and women. UCSF
seeks candidates whose experience, teaching, research, or community
service has prepared them to contribute to our commitment to diversity
and excellence.
