A postdoctoral position is available immediately in the Medical Physics Division, Department of Radiation Oncology at the Washington University in Saint Louis, MO. The successful candidate will be working with other researchers to develop novel technologies for image-guided radiation therapy. This is an excellent opportunity for someone to apply imaging physics knowledge to clinical radiation therapy.

Facility and Equipment:
Washington University School of Medicine is consistently ranked as one of the top five medical schools in the country, and its Alvin J. Siteman Cancer Center is a National Cancer Institute-designated comprehensive cancer center. The Department of Radiation Oncology is well equipped with advanced treatment planning and therapy delivery systems, including 4 Varian (2 Trilogy units), 2 Elekta Precise accelerators, 2 Tomotherapy planning and delivery units, a Gamma Knife planning and delivery system, 2 HDR units, 2 Philips CT-simulators, a 1.5T MRI simulator. A PET-CT scanner will be added soon. In early 2009, we take delivery of the world’s first compact, single room proton therapy machine.

Qualifications:
The goal of this project is to develop and integrate advanced MRI techniques for radiotherapy guidance and response assessment. Close collaborations with medical physicists, radiation oncologists, and other clinician scientists within the Department as well as the University are therefore highly expected. Candidates must be highly motivated and have a strong background in MRI or medical physics. Experience in pulse sequences development, RF coil design, or image processing is highly desired.
