Posted: 10 November 2008

Positions: The Research Imaging Center (RIC), MRI Division, at the University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio, has 3-5 openings for postdoctoral positions in the following areas:

1) MRI pulse sequence programming or hardware (Siemens or Bruker),

2) Technical development of MRI and optical imaging for neuro and retinal applications in general,

3) Imaging applications in rodent/non-human primate models of stroke, retinal diseases and aging.

These projects are funded by NIH, VA and other agencies.

Qualifications: Applicants should have a PhD or MD/PhD in related fields. We seek expertise in fMRI, diffusion MRI, physiological MRI (blood flow, blood volume, etc), pulse sequence and hardware. Projects range from mice, non-human primates to humans, depending on candidates’ research interests.

About RIC: Our research interests broadly encompass: 1) development of innovative magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), optical/speckle imaging and PET technologies, and 2) applications of imaging technologies to study anatomy, metabolism, physiology and function in brains and retinas of animals (mice to non-human primates) and humans. Our research group is highly interdisciplinary with expertise in MRI physics, engineering, physiology, neuroscience and image processing. We also work closely with the Southwest Foundation for Biomedical Research (a national non-human primate center), the South Texas VA, and the Barshop Institute for Longevity and Aging Studies. Specific to this recruitment, the MRI Division recently underwent a large expansion which now houses three new Bruker scanners (11.7/16 cm, 7T/30cm, 7T/16cm), and two research-dedicated 3T/90cm whole-body Siemens TIM TRIO (with an high-performance AC88 gradient insert). There are comprehensive computing facility, machine and electronic workshops, wet labs, patient prep, and in-house animal facility.
