Postdoctoral Position as an NIH Sponsored Training Fellow in Molecular Imaging University of Michigan, Ann Arbor USA

The Center for Molecular Imaging (CMI) at the University of Michigan is one of several NIH funded In vivo Cellular and Molecular Imaging Centers (ICMIC) in the US. This announcement invites applications for cancer development awards at the Postdoctoral level in the area of molecular imaging. The position will focus on the application of imaging to study molecular and cellular processes in cancer models. The areas of potential projects for this position include investigating diffusion and perfusion MRI as early biomarkers for cancer treatment response, the development and application of novel molecular imaging probes for optical and PET/SPECT cancer imaging and participation in imaging clinical trials.

The CMI is a dedicated, state-of-the-art research facility providing preclinical imaging technology to support cutting edge research using cancer models in animals. The CMI includes a 7T/310 and 9.4T/160 Varian animal spectrometers, a tri-modality imaging system MicroPET/SPECT/CT, a Siemens Invion Micro PET/CT as well as optical imaging techniques (Bioluminescence and Fluorescence). The CMI also houses a large cellular and molecular biology laboratory, hot and cold chemistry synthetic labs as well as fluorescent and confocal microscopic labs. In addition, a digital image post-processing lab is also available for image fusion, segmentation and quantification of functional and molecular images.

Applicants should possess a Ph.D. in an appropriate discipline, such as physics, biomedical engineering, biochemistry, molecular and cellular biology or chemistry. Candidates should have demonstrated excellence in the field of imaging or biological sciences as applied to experimental in vivo research demonstrated by peer-reviewed publications and productivity during their Ph.D. studies. A strong MRI or PET background is helpful with an interest in applying these technologies to address specific biological and clinical questions related to translational research.
