Talk:Main Page

I would be happy to contribute a few pages to what I consider to be a very good idea. However, it doesn't seem to make SENSE to add new things while all the PAGES which EXIST so far are all written in CAPITALS. I find it doesn't look nice, and actually makes it more difficult to read SENTENCES which have some WORDS capitalized. I contacted Allison Barbour about this and she said she would look into it. Presumably the first job would be to take some of the main MRI related articles straight out of the main Wikipedia? - or to crosslink them somehow? Is there a Wiki expert out there who can advise on this...? Dgallichan 11:57, 4 January 2011 (UTC)

I think the copyright question how this ISMRM wiki should relate to others like the official wikipedia has to be specified more clearly. Which is a reason why I have not crosslinked yet wikipedia articles due to the set goal "making it the best MR-wiki around". So the way I understood it is to make it a mixture between an expert and the more general focus of wikipedia - setting links to wikipedia as well as other MR-wikis on the web is ok, but absolutely not the copying of text into this wiki (which will run into copyright issues). Also I have thought of the possibility that ISMRM could engage as an official wikipedia-task force for MR-related articles, which also would have to be worked out by Allison Barbour. Finally I do agree that the capitalization of the articles should be reverted to a regular format, but I think this will involve a lot of forwarded articles if the admin of this wiki doesn't dive deep into the SQL realms possibly causing other problems in indexing as well. I totally agree. The first issue is IMHO the copyright. I don't think it makes sense to contribute at all to the wiki if the copyright issue is not well defined. Can you imagine the mess of changing the license after hundreds of contributions? At the moment, there is no clear policy, which means "all rights reserved". This is making the ISMRM wiki totally useless at the moment, because there is no exchange of information with wikipedia (which already contains tons of articles about MR). Our strength is that our wiki could (in the future) count as a "trusted source" for content. Capitalization is IMHO very annoying, but it is not a major issue. The articles are still so few that manually moving pages would still make sense. What really lacks is organization of content (the only form of organization is an alphabetical list of pages? Seriously? There are categories for this, and work much better). I already talked to Roberta Kravitz (and to the President) about the copyright issue, they said they would look into it, but nothing has been done so far... --FrancescoSantini 09:06, 10 January 2011 (UTC)
I personally think the ALL CAPITAL is OK for the MRI Glossary page. In the actual contents, we should avoid using capital word in the sentence by adding a link text. It will add a little work when editing but avoid the hassle to rebuild everything. Just some thoughts. I will go with the community decision though.--Duanqi
Yes it's not too bad for the glossary, but I think that in principle it should be the other way round: the titles should follow normal capitalization and (if wanted) alternate text in the glossary should be provided in all capitals. Anyway, I wouldn't change anything by hand right now, if we get this thing properly started I'll set up a bot to do this tedious work. --FrancescoSantini 16:49, 13 January 2011 (UTC)

Referencing literature and external links

We also should agree on a common format in the bibliography of journal articles (i.e. order of author names, title, etc.), which has to be defined (currently its a wild mixture somewhat similar to the Harvard style). Also it would be good to standardize references by external linking to the pubmed page of the literature item if applicable. --Condor 18:01, 19 January 2011 (UTC)

Putting an order to the mess

Dear all, I think it is crucial to start doing things right. I will write another email to Roberta Kravitz about the copyright issue; in the meantime, I will open a new page in the ISMRMWiki namespace called ISMRMWiki:How to contribute where we should start defining style conventions and so forth. I'll be bold (as Wikipedia teaches us to be) and link the page from the TABLE OF CONTENTS and the MRI GLOSSARY, which are the pages that contributors will most likely visit first before starting to contribute. I hope that as many people as possible will join me in the talk page there and start defining some proper guidelines. --FrancescoSantini 16:03, 13 January 2011 (UTC)
