Abstract Deadlines:  The deadline for receipt of  oral and poster presentation abstract submissions for the SMRT 19th Annual Meeting is 17:00 hours (5PM) Pacific Time (USA) on 6 January 2010. All abstracts must be submitted electronically.  Paper abstracts will NOT be considered.  The deadline for receipt of electronic posters to be considered for awards for the SMRT 19th Annual Meeting is 17:00 hours (5PM) Pacific Time (USA) on 22 February 2010.

Important Note:  Submissions will only be accepted from people practicing as MR Technologists and Radiographers or equivalent, and must be their own original work that has not been previously published or presented.  All abstracts must be submitted electronically via the SMRT Website. Paper abstracts will not be considered for review. For more information on how to write an abstract, click here.

Abstract Presentation Methods & Focuses: Abstracts submitted for the SMRT 19th Annual Meeting may be presented in oral or poster formats.  Submissions may be of a clinical focus, which demonstrates improvements in patient care or diagnosis through the application of existing MR techniques, or a research focus, which describes a novel MR investigation or development. 

Abstract Format
1.) 
Use 10pt. type, using a standard font (i.e. Arial, Times, Times New Roman, Helvetica);
2.)  Do not exceed one page in length (title, authors, text, and images must all be contained on this one page);
3.)  Set your page size at 8.5" (21.5 cm) wide x 11" (28 cm). Please make your top margin at least 0.5" (1.25 cm) and a bottom margin of at least 0.5" (1.25 cm), with right and left margins of at least 0.5" (1.25 cm).

Abstract Content & Headings
1.)  Abstracts in the clinical focus must include sections on the background or purpose of the research, the teaching point, and a summary.  Research abstracts should state the purpose of the research, report the methods used to conduct the study, summarize the results gathered from the study, and discuss the conclusions reached from the results of the research.

2.)  Please include the sections requested and designate each by respectively heading the beginning of each section.  Headings for the clinical focus should include the background or purpose of the research, teaching point, and summary.  Headings for the research focus should include the background or purpose for the research, methods, results, and conclusion.

Sample Abstract Formats: To assist you, we have provided a template in Word format. Just highlight and replace the title, authors and affiliations, and text with your own and submit it electronically via e-mail.

Scoring and Awards:  All complete abstracts submitted by the 6 January 2010 deadline will be reviewed by members of the Education Committee to determine acceptance.  The accepted abstracts are then scored by the members of the Education Committee, and seven (7) of the abstracts submitted for oral presentation are selected to receive the Proffered Paper Awards.  Please note, Proffered Paper Awards are determined by abstract submission NOT the oral presentation session.  Abstract authors will receive notification of acceptance on 2 February 2010.  Abstracts that meet the acceptance criteria, but are not selected to receive a Proffered Paper Award, may be submitted by 22 February 2010 as an electronic poster to be included in the poster scoring. Electronic posters received by the due date will be scored by the members of the Education Committee and the six (6) highest scoring posters will receive the Poster Awards. Posters not submitted electronically will not be eligible for awards but may still be presented.

The President's Award: The Presidents Award honors the most outstanding oral presentation, Proffered Paper submission.  This honoree will receive an educational stipend to support the presentation of the award-winning abstract at the SMRT 19th Annual Meeting in Stockholm, Sweden.

Awards will be presented to the next highest scored submissions as follows:

Proffered Paper Awards:
Oral Presentation – Research Focus: 1st, 2nd, and 3rd;
Oral Presentation – Clinical Practice Focus: 1st, 2nd, and 3rd;

Poster Awards:
Poster Presentation – Research Focus: 1st, 2nd, and 3rd;
Poster Presentation – Clinical Practice Focus: 1st, 2nd, and 3rd.

Authors submitting in the Oral Presentation format who are selected to receive a Proffered Paper Award are required to present their paper at the scheduled date and time.  The authors of all abstracts accepted as Poster Presentations are required to attend the Poster Exhibit and Walking Tour on Friday, 30 April 2010, at 18:00.  All oral and poster presenters will receive detailed instructions and information pertaining to their presentation at the 19th SMRT annual meeting with their acceptance letters. All award winners are required to attend the SMRT Awards Presentation on Sunday, 2 May 2010 at 14:30.

Abstract Submission Guidelines:  In completing the request for address information, it is imperative that you list your name, degree(s), credential(s), preferred mailing address, e-mail, and appropriate telephone/fax numbers. The submitted SMRT Abstract must be completed in its entirety or the submission will not be considered. The author listing is limited to five additional authors. If more than five authors contributed to the work, please check the appropriate box on the submission/upload page. The abstract will be published in the SMRT Annual Meeting Syllabus with "et al." after the authors' names.
