The Light Bulb and its Effect on Noise in P 31MR Spectroscopy @ 3.0T

Zahid Latif, RT (R)(CT)(MR)
Wayne State University, Harper University Hospital
Detroit, Michigan, USA

Zahid Latif, RT (R)(CT)(MR) started his carrier in Radiology in 1974 in Detroit Michigan. He graduated in 1976 from Grace Hospital School of Radiology, Detroit, MI. Back then CT was not invented yet and there was no ultra sound either. The radiology departments consisted of X-ray, interventional radiology and Nuclear Medicine only. Wet reading actually meant the wet film.

He worked in many capacities including, staff technologist, supervisor and then as manager however he always kept up to date with the emerging technologies in Radiology. He was particularly interested in CT imaging which was the most advanced imaging modality of that time. Even though he didn't get to be on board with CT in its early days, he wanted to make sure not to miss the boat for the next big thing in Radiology, which was the up and coming Nuclear Magnetic Resonance Imaging (NMR which we know today as MRI).

He started his MR journey in 1990 at the Detroit Medical Center Hospital where he worked as staff technologist till 1998. In 1996 he attended his first SMRT meeting in New York.

In 1998 he had the opportunity to join the Wayne State University in Detroit Michigan. This was the turning point for his carrier. He had a life time opportunity to work with many different departments of research. Trauma, MS, Alzheimer and aging related research from Neurology department, cerebro-vascular and fMRI studies from Psychiatry, cardiovascular studies from Cardiology, biomechanics related studies from auto industry, respiratory medicine related work from pediatrics and tumor targeting drug clinical trials from drug companies. Every project was unique and offered a great time to learn from as well as to teach to the masters and PhD students in his Lab. Coming from a clinical technologist's background, he brought a unique perspective to the translational research at his research facility. This was very much helpful for the research principle investigators and by their staff.

Zahid has contributed in many papers and written numerous abstracts for SMRT. He presented the oral poster at the SMRT in 2004 in Honolulu, USA. He was awarded the first place Clinical focus award from SMRT in 2008, Toronto, Canada. He was also the recipient of 2nd place Research focus award at the SMRT 2012 in Melbourne Australia. He has attended every SMRT/ISMRM meeting since 2004 except the 2014. He enjoys his work every day as Chief MR Research Technologist for WSU (Wayne State University) MR Research Facility.
