EDITOR'S LETTER

Signals Editor

“The offerings displayed in the Signals show the global extent of the SMRT and those MR technologists and radiographers who participate.”

Greetings! This issue of the E-Signals brings you the excitement and news that is the SMRT!

My appreciation is extended to Michael Schlenk, for his diligence in obtaining photographs during the Annual Meeting. He was assisted valiantly by Vanessa Orchard who also acquired photographs.

We begin the news by meeting the President, Maureen Hood. She is the first MR technologist to serve in the position with an earned Ph.D. Her journey exemplifies the efforts of the SMRT and its members.

Program Chair, Rhonda Walcarius reviews the successful Annual Meeting held in Milan, Italy. You will note that the invited speakers were of high quality and there were some interesting twists to the meeting this year. You are invited to page through the photographs to get a real sense of the two day event. Please recognize the generous sponsors who are instrumental in the realization of the meeting.

Peer reviewed presentations in both proffered paper and poster format were organized by Education Committee Chair, Sheryl Foster. The offerings displayed in the Signals show the global extent of the SMRT and those MR technologists and radiographers who participate.

The SMRT conducts an annual business meeting between didactic sessions which is pictorially depicted. Ben Kennedy passes the gavel to Maureen Hood in true SMRT fashion.

In some ways the 2014 Annual Meeting was bittersweet as we said farewell to retiring Associate Executive Director, Jennifer Olson. The celebration, tributes and gifts are shown in representative photographs.

Coordinating the Joint ISMRM/SMRT Forum this year were Jim Stuppino and Cindy Comeau. They, along with representation from the ISMRM, implemented an informational discussion on the trending topic of PET/MR. The session was comprised of presentations from users of various perspectives and then a panel discussion that included audience participation.

Each year the SMRT recognizes individuals who have made significant contributions to the society in support of the mission to provide quality education. Those individuals are listed with their awards for your consideration.

For the first time, the SMRT participated in the United Kingdom Radiology Congress as reported by Muriel Cockburn. She shares that this may become an annual invitation, a welcome extension of the SMRT.

It is not too soon to think about the 2015 SMRT Annual Meeting. Program Chair, Chris Kokkinos announces the meeting dates and city. Start making your plans!

The SMRT membership elects new Policy Board members every year along with the President-elect and the recipient of the prestigious Crues-Kressel award. Nominations and Awards Committee Chair, Ben Kennedy explains the process.

Rounding out this issue is a description of the latest Home Study by Editor, Anne Marie Sawyer. Another milestone for the series as this is the 65th Educational Seminar. Anne is also responsible for the educational material available on the SMRT website. Need continuing education credits? Check it out!

Although she is officially retired as this issue reaches your in-box, my thanks to Jennifer Olson, Associate Executive Director, for her many years of service and support of the Signals Newsletter. We will properly welcome the new Associate Executive Director, Kerry Crockett in the next issue of Signals. My thanks as always to Mary Keydash, Publications Director, Linda O-Brown, SMRT Coordinator, Sally Moran, Director of Electronic Communications and the staff in the central office for their continued service on behalf of Signals.
