1990
  • SMRI Annual Meeting in Washington, D.C.: Following a technologist educational seminar, an interest was expressed in starting an MR society/section for technologists.
  • SMRM Annual Meeting in New York: A business meeting was held with 18 MR technologists (the original SMRT Steering Committee) from across the nation headed by Dr. John Crues from Santa Barbara, California, and Dr. Herbert Kressel, from Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Committees were started to include Membership, Bylaws, Nominating, Education, and Program.
  • RSNA Annual Meeting in Chicago: The SMRT Steering Committee met and approved a set of bylaws for the SMRM/SMRI technologists. November also saw the beginning for the merger of the SMRM and SMRI technologists joint venture.
 
1991
  • SMRI Annual Meeting in Chicago: The merger between SMRM and SMRI technologists begins as a joint venture between the two societies. The need for a newsletter is recognized and a committee was put together to produce a newsletter.
  • SMRM Annual Meeting in San Francisco: SMRT Annual Meeting held in conjunction with the SMRM. SMRT Steering Committee members met with newly elected officers. William Faulkner elected as first President of SMRT, Carolyn Kaut-Watson, elected as President-Elect, Lori (Irrilli) Talagala elected Secretary, and Swapen Sen elected Treasurer. The members of the Steering Committee were selected as nominees for the first SMRT Policy Board members.
  • The first SMRT newsletter was published.
  • Dr. Crues and Dr. Kressel are presented with the first Crues-Kressel Award for outstanding achievements in MR technologist education.
 
1992
  • SMRI Annual Meeting in San Francisco, California: SMRT Annual Meeting held in conjunction with SMRI. SMRT Policy Board voted on SMRT logo and newsletter title. Carolyn Kaut-Watson presided as the second SMRT President. Nanette Keck became the first editor of the Signals newsletter.
  • Election of Carolyn Pickett as President-Elect, along with the election of 15 new Policy Board members. (Decision that Policy Board would run for three years, but since the first fifteen came into office together, five would serve in office for one year, five for two years, and five for three years. Subsequent Policy Board Members would all serve for three years.)
  • Third newsletter published, Signals, with the new SMRT logo.
  • SMRM Annual Meeting in Berlin, Germany: SMRT held a technologist workshop in English and German in Berlin in conjunction with the SMRM.
  • Northwest Regional Seminar held in Seattle, Washington, Pam Tazioli, Chair.
  • Northeast Regional Seminar held in Boston, Massachusetts, Carolyn Pickett, Chair.
  • South Central Regional Seminar held in Dallas, Texas, Rita Clemons, Chair.

  • Signals newsletter becomes a quarterly issue.

  • The Society for Magnetic Resonance in Medicine and the Society of Magnetic Resonance Imaging officially merge as one Society.
  • SMRT Iowa Local Chapter formed, organized by Kimberly Cartledge.
  • SMRI Annual Meeting in Dallas, Texas: SMRT Annual Meeting held in conjunction with the SMRI. Carolyn Pickett is the third SMRT President. Frank Shellock, Ph.D., is presented with the third Crues-Kressel Award. President's Award winner for best abstract paper is Bobbie Burrow.
  • SMRT Los Angeles North Local Chapter formed, organized by Vickie Musliner.
  • Northeast Regional Seminar held in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, as a joint conference with the Association of Educators in Radiological Sciences, Carolyn Watson, Chair.
  • Southeast Regional Seminar held in Miami, Florida, Danny Lobo, Chair.

  • The third Home Study Educational Seminar is published, "Considerations in Low Field MRI."
  • President's Regional held in Woodland Hills, California - President Anne Sawyer-Glover and James Hamilton, Co-Chairs.
  • The fourth Home Study Educational Seminar is published, "Directions in Basic Cardiac Imaging."
  • SMRT Annual Meeting held in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania in conjunction with the ISMRM.   Julie Strandt-Peay takes office as President. Karol Handrahan resigns as Treasurer, John Koveleski will complete Karol Handrahan's term as Treasurer.  Charles Deschamps is awarded with the Crues & Kressel Award.  President's Award is presented to Cheryl Johnson for the best abstract paper.   Poster awards were presented to Ho NamKoong, First Place; Scott Kurdilla, Second Place; Bobbi Lewis, Third Place.

  • SMRT Annual Meeting held in Denver, Colorado in conjunction with the ISMRM.  Robin Greene-Avison takes office as President. Kelly Baron is awarded with the Crues & Kressel Award. President's Award is presented to Inge M. Carstens, Essen, Germany for the best proffered paper. For the first time the Education and Program Committee awarded 1st, 2nd and 3rd Place Awards for Research and Clinical Focus Proffered Papers and Posters. Oral Proffered papers were awarded to: Clinical Focus-Catherine Callahan,1st Place; Karen Bove Bettis, 2nd Place; Jane Francis, 3rd Place.   • The eleventh Home Study Educucational Seminar  is published, "Safety Aspects in MRI."
  • The SMRT Annual Meeting is held jointly with the British Association of MR Radiographers (BAMRR) in conjunction with ISMRM and ESMRMB in Glasgow, Scotland, UK.
  • Heidi Berns takes office as President, Anne Sawyer-Glover takes office as Treasurer, and William Faulkner takes office as Secretary. Anne Sawyer-Glover is awarded the Crues & Kressel Award.  Luann Culbreth and William Faulkner are presented with Fellow of the Section Awards. President's Award is presented to Cindy Comeau for the best proffered paper. Oral Proffered papers were awarded to: Clinical Focus-Duncan Thorn,1st Place; Jane Ho, 2nd Place; Silke Bosk, 3rd Place. Research Focus-Catherine Callahan, 1st Place; Paule Samson, 2nd Place; John Christopher, 3rd Place. Lorrie Kelly, SMRT Signals Editor for three years rolls off the SMRT Board. Julie Strandt-Peay is the new Signals Editor.  Kelly Baron continues as editor of the Home Study "SMRT Educational Seminars."

  • The "Safety Aspects in MRI" is approved by the SMRT/ISMRM for the second German translated Home Study.

  • The 15th Home Study is published, "Atlas of Cranial Neuroanatomy."

  • SMRT Annual Meeting held in Honolulu, Hawaii in conjunction with the ISMRM.  Gina Greenwood is Program Chair and Cindy Hipps is Education Chair. John Koveleski takes office as President. President’s Award is presented to Marcela Montequin for the best proffered paper. The Education and Program Committee awarded Oral Proffered papers to: Clinical Focus-Eva Wembacher,1st Place; Frank Londy, 2nd Place; David Stanley, 3rd Place. Research Focus-Julie Strandt-Peay, 1st Place; Catherine Callahan, 2nd Place; Anne Dorte Blankholm, 3rd Place.   • The Northeast Regional Seminar was held in Utica, New York, hosted by Mark Spooner.

  • The 16th Home Study is published, "MRI of the Ankle and Foot."  The German translation of the "Safety Aspects in MRI" Home Study was sent to a Siemens representative in Germany for distribution. Copies were also sent to the ISMRM German Chapter technologist group located in Essen, Germany.

  • The Southeast Regional Seminar held in Atlanta, Georgia, hosted by the SMRT Atlanta Local Chapter; Co-chaired by Donna O'Brien, Carolyn Brown and Bobbie Burrow.

  •  The first Eastern Canada Regional Seminar held in Montreal, Quebec, Canada, organized by Laurian Rohoman and co-chaired by Louise Gaudreau and Marian Stern.

  • The 17th Home Study is published, "MR Imaging of the Breast."

  • The Northeast Regional Seminar held in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, co-chaired by Denise Davis and Joanne Hoener.

  • The 18th Home Study is published, "Diffusion-Weighted Imaging of the Brain." MRI Devices Corporation continues the support in publishing the Home Study for another year.

 
2003
  • SMRT begins hosting the MRI Technologist List Server for all MR technologists. The List serve originated from Richard Helsper at Duke University.

  • The 19th Home Study is published, "Directions in MRA of the Abdominal Aorta and Lower Extremities."

  • SMRT Annual Meeting held in Toronto, Ontario, Canada in conjunction with the ISMRM was postponed until July due to the World Health Organization's travel advisory to Toronto due to the SAR's outbreak.

  • The 20th Home Study is published "Fundamental Principles of MR Imaging of the Head, Neck, and Spine."  Anne Sawyer-Glover was approved by the Executive Committee to become the Educational Seminars Home Study editor. Kelly Baron and Anne Sawyer-Glover will work in tandem throughout the rest of the year to complete home studies already in progress.

  • SMRT Annual Meeting held in Toronto, Ontario, Canada in conjunction with the ISMRM. Laurian Rohoman is Program Chair and Julie Lowe is Education Chair. Maureen Ainslie takes office as President. President’s Award is presented to Eva Wembacher for the best proffered paper. The Education and Program Committee awarded Oral Proffered papers to: Clinical Focus-Mercedes Pereyra,1st Place; Claudio Arena, 2nd Place; Eva Wembacher, 3rd Place. Research Focus-Heather Ducie, 1st Place; Jane Francis, 2nd Place (Tie); Wendy Strugnell, 2nd Place (Tie).  Poster awards were presented to: Clinical Focus-David Stanley, 1st Place; Sandra Massing, 2nd Place; and David Stanley, 3rd Place.  Research Focus- Renee Hill, 1st Place; Karen Bove Bettis, 2nd Place Tie; and Randy Earnest, 2nd Place Tie.  Gregory Brown is presented with the Crues & Kressel Award.   • The Northeast Regional Seminar held in Boston, Massachusetts, hosted by Shields MRI, co-chaired by Vera Miller and Karen Rich.

  • The 22nd Home Study is published, “Diffusion-Weighted MR Imaging of the Pediatric Brain.”

 
2004
  • The North Central Regional Seminar held in Cleveland, Ohio co-chaired by Julie Low, John Dillinger and Virginia Reilly.  After six years of publishing the Home Study, Kelly Baron turns over the editorship of the Home Study to Anne Sawyer-Glover for a term of five years. The 23rd Home Study is published, “The Role of Neuroimaging in the Diagnosis of Alzheimer’s Disease.”

  • The Northeast Regional Seminar held in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania, co-chaired by Linda Varnis, Megan Mullen, and Mark Perna.

  • The Eastern Canada Regional Seminar held in Ottawa, Ontario, co-chaired by Rick Heroux and Eric Murray.

  • SMRT Annual Meeting held in Kyoto, Japan in conjunction with the ISMRM. James Stuppino is Program Chair and Julie Lowe is Education Chair. Cindy Hipps takes office as President. President’s Award is presented to Eric L. Douglas for the best proffered paper. The Education and Program Committee awarded Oral Proffered papers to: Clinical Focus-Mercedes Pereyra,1st Place; Sandra Massing, 2nd Place; Sandra Massing, 3rd Place.   • The 24th Home Study is published, “Cardiovascular MRI: Update 1.”

  • The Southeast Regional Seminar held in Atlanta, Georgia, hosted by the SMRT Atlanta Local Chapter; co-chaired by Carolyn Brown, Bobbie Burrow and Donna O’Brien.  The Northeast Regional Seminar held in New York, New York, co-chaired by Cindy R. Comeau and Carol Finn. The 25th Home Study is published, “K-Space in the Clinic.”
    The Northeast Regional Seminar held in Boston, Massachusetts, co-chaired by Carolyn Bonaceto and Michael Dunlap. The President’s Regional Seminar held in Charleston, South Carolina, chaired by Cindy Hipps, SMRT President.

  • The West Regional Seminar held in Stanford, California, co-chaired by Anne Sawyer-Glover and Jane Johnson.  

  • The 26thHome Study is published, “MR Imaging and Spectroscopy of the Prostate.”

 
2005
  • The SMRT is recognized by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) as a Recognized Continuing Education Evaluation Mechanism (RCEEM). This will enable the SMRT to accredit their meetings and home studies as well as continuing education credit for other MR organizations.

  • The Northwest Regional Seminar held in Renton, Washington, California, co-chaired by Denise Echelard and Vern Terry.  The twenty-seventh Home Study is published, “Atlas of Knee Anatomy".

  • SMRT Annual Meeting held in Miami Beach, Florida in conjunction with the ISMRM. Nanette Keck is Program Chair and John Christopher is Education Chair. Karen Bove Bettis takes office as President. President’s Award is presented to John Totman for the best proffered paper. The Education and Program Committee awarded Oral Proffered papers to: Clinical Focus-Filip DeRidder,1st Place (Tie); David Stanley, 1st Place (Tie); Hina Jaggi, 2nd Place; Jane Johnson, 3rd Place.   • The twenty-eighth Home Study is published, “Cardiovascular MRI: Update II".  The Northeast Regional Seminar held in Syracuse, New York, chaired by Mark Spooner.

  • The Southeast Regional Seminar held in Atlanta, Georgia, hosted by the SMRT Atlanta Local Chapter; co-chaired by Carolyn Brown, Bobbie Burrow and Donna O’Brien.  The Eastern Canada Regional Seminar held in Toronto, Ontario, Canada, co-chaired by Caron Murray, Joanne Muldoon and Garry Detzler.

  • The Northeast Regional Seminar held in New York, New York, co-chaired by Cindy Comeau and Carol Finn.  The Northeast Regional Seminar held in Boston, Massachusetts, co-chaired by Carolyn Bonaceto, Patricia Devine, John Shirosky, and Paul Wilson. The twenty-ninth Home Study is published, “Update: Safety in MR Examination".

  • The West Regional Seminar held in Stanford, California, co-chaired by Maureen Ainslie and Anne Sawyer-Glover.

2006
  • March- The 31st Home Study is published, MRI of Breast Cancer: Update 1.
    The President s Regional Seminar held in Charlottesville, Virginia, co-chaired by Karen Bove Bettis, John Christopher, Charles Stanley, and Laurian Rohoman hosted by the Central Virginia Chapter.

  • May- SMRT Annual Meeting held in Seattle, Washington in conjunction with the ISMRM.  Todd Frederick is Program Chair and Carolyn Bonaceto is Education Chair.  Cindy Comeau takes office as President.  President's Award is presented to Caron Murray for the best proffered paper.  The Education and Program Committee awarded Oral Proffered papers to: Clinical Focus-Carol Beehler, 1st Place; Filip De Ridder, 2nd Place; Shari Stewart, 3rd Place. Research Focus-Marcela Montequin, 1st Place; Hina Jaggi, 2nd Place; Joon Ho Hwang, 3rd Place.  Poster awards were presented to: Clinical Focus-Cindy Comeau 1st Place; Christine Mancini, 2nd Place; and Michelle Garcia, 3rd Place. Research Focus- Susan Ryan, 1st Place; Julie Strandt-Peay, 2nd Place; and Anne Marie Sawyer, 3rd Place.  Maureen Hood is presented with the Crues & Kressel Award. Maureen Ainslie and Bobbie Burrow are presented with Fellow of the Section Awards.  Julie Strandt-Peay is presented with the Distinguished Service Award.
    Anne Marie Sawyer is presented with the Honorary Member Award.  Bobbi Lewis on behalf of SMRT organized and presented the fourth SMRT/ISMRM Joint Forum on Imaging of the Mother, Fetus, and Newborn for the ISMRM Scientific Meeting.
