From the Airports
The New York City metropolitan area is served by three primary airports, John F. Kennedy Internatiosnal Airport (JFK) in southern Queens, Newark Liberty International Airport (EWR) in Newark, NJ, and LaGuardia Airport (LGA) in northern Queens. They are managed by the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey.

When arriving at a NYC airport and looking for a taxi, make sure to look for an official taxi stand outside your terminal where you will be given the next available NYC yellow cab. Official drivers do not stand inside the terminal nor ask if you need a cab. The taxi stand dispatcher will help you get a taxi. You can pay a taxi driver with cash or credit/debit card upon arrival. All NYC taxis now have a debit card swipe machine with tip options.

From Laguardia Airport
Bus transport to Grand Central Terminal is $14 (one way). A taxi currently costs about $35 plus tolls and tips. In heavy traffic, the trip can cost more.

By NYC Taxi
Taxis (yellow cabs) cruise the streets of the city, mostly in Manhattan, and are easily available at almost any hour. The city has made a big effort to improve taxi services in the past few years and cabs are generally considered a very convenient, fast, and efficient way to negotiate the city. Metered fares start at $2.50, with $0.40 for each 1/5 of a mile or 1 minute stopped in traffic. There is a night surcharge of $0.50 after 8:00 p.m. and before 6:00 a.m. and a peak hour surcharge of $1.00 Monday to Friday after 4:00 p.m. and before 8:00 p.m. All taxi rides are subject to a NY State Tax Surcharge of $0.50. Passengers are advised to use seat belts. Remember to get a receipt from the driver, who will expect a 15% tip. Do not make use of unlicensed taxis if you would like a safe, hassle-free trip.
