Sunrise Course:
Cardiovascular Imaging: Disease or Problem Based Teaching, Practical Protocols
Organizers: Victor A. Ferrari, M.D., Vivian S Lee, M.D., Ph.D., M.B.A., and Mitsue Miyazaki, Ph.D.
Skill Level: Advanced
Tuesday - Friday, 4-7 May 2010
07:00 - 08:00

This four-hour course will review current cutting-edge topics in cardiovascular MRI. The major emphases will include 3T cardiovascular MRI, time-resolved MRA, image processing and visualization, and T2/T2* imaging. Course instructors are MD’s, PhD’s (or both) Content will include selection of pulse sequences for optimal disease detection, practical and time-optimized imaging protocols, and a thorough review of the potential pitfalls of imaging these patients with disorders. The current problems at 3T will be addressed and solutions discussed where appropriate, to provide attendees with an understanding of the strengths and limitations of current MRI methods. The overall goals are to increase the attendee’s knowledge base in these areas, and to inform future clinical imaging decision-making.
Upon completion of this course participants should be able to:
  • Recognize recent advancements and requirements in 3T cardiovascular MRI, as compared to present 1.5T MRI;
  • Evaluate the strengths and limitations of current cardiovascular MRI techniques when applied to clinical diagnostic examinations;
  • Describe current clinical techniques for assessment of ischemic heart disease and various cardiac diseases using new methods;
  • Select the potential clinical applications of time-resolved techniques, and the technical challenges that will need to be resolved for wider applications; and
  • Apply current approaches optimally to these diseases.
