SUNRISE EDUCATIONAL COURSE
Absolute Beginner’s Guide to Neuroimaging Methods
ORGANIZERS: Xiaoping P. Hu, Ph.D., Kamil Uludag, Ph.D. & Matthias J. P. van Osch, Ph.D.

SKILL LEVEL: Basic

OVERVIEW
This four-hour course provides an introductory description of various MR neuroimaging approaches for basic scientists and clinicians. From Tuesday to Friday, the course will cover Diffusion MRI, Perfusion MRI, Functional MRI and Connectivity (functional and structural). The attendees will learn basic theory, acquisition and analysis of the respective approaches and will be educated to perform data acquisition and analysis with each approach This course will provide a framework for setting-up neuro MRI studies, analyzing the data and interpreting results, as well as providing a glimpse of future techniques that may supplant current state-of-the art methods.

EDUCATIONAL OBJECTIVES
Upon completion of this course participants should be able to:
Describe the methods used to acquire and analyze Diffusion MRI data and their limitations;
Explain the methods used to acquire dynamic contrast enhanced MRI data and their limitations;
Describe the methods used to acquire arterial spin labeling MRI data and their limitations;
Explain the fundamentals of functional MRI and how to analyze fMRI data; and
Compare the basic approaches for both functional and structural connectivity analysis.

AUDIENCE DESCRIPTION
This course is designed for scientists and clinicians who are working or starting to work in the field of MR neuroimaging and would like to have an extensive overview of the scientific and technical underpinnings of these techniques. The course is aimed at beginners with basic knowledge of MRI but not necessarily familiarity with acquisition and analysis of the neuroimaging topic covered.
