This two-hour course focuses on MRI evaluation of inflammatory bowel disease, perianala fistulas, and rectal cancer. Presentations on MRI technique with a case-based approach will focus on inflammatory bowel disease. Detailed findings of perianal fistulas and the intricate anorectal anatomy will be described. In addition, state-of-the-art method for rectal staging and follow-up will be illustrated.
This course is aimed at radiologists, clinical support scientists and MR technologists who are involved in bowel imaging and wish to learn about the applications of MRI for inflammatory bowel disease, perianal fistula and rectal cancer.

Upon completion of this course, participants should be able to:

  • Use MR imaging in the evaluation and follow-up of patients with suspected inflammatory bowel disease;
  • Describe the normal anatomy of the anorectal region and be able to identify and classify perianal fistulas; and
  • Identify the added value of MRI in the pre- and post-operative management of patients with rectal carcinoma.
