Joint Annual Meeting ISMRM-ESMRMB 2014 10-16 May 2014 Milan, Italy

WEEKDAY EDUCATIONAL COURSE
Imaging of Cancer: Beyond Anatomy & Morphology
SKILL LEVEL: Basic to Intermediate
ORGANIZERS: Robert E. Lenkinski, Ph.D. & Daniel M. Spielman, Ph.D.
Monday, 12 May 2014

OVERVIEW
The clinical importance of MR techniques that provide critical physiologic and metabolic information for cancer diagnosis and evaluation is rapidly growing. The goal of this educational session is to gain an understanding of the added value, advantages, and disadvantages provided by DCA, ASL, MRS, and DWI for imaging the cancer patient.

TARGET AUDIENCE
This session is designed to appeal to both clinicians interested in extending their cancer imaging protocols and MR physicists interested in focusing their research on clinical problems.

EDUCATIONAL OBJECTIVES

As a result of attending this course, participants should be able to:

  • Assess the role of dynamic contrast-enhanced MRI (DCE-MRI) in imaging the cancer patient;
  • Assess the role of arterial spin labeling (ASL) in imaging the cancer patient;
  • Assess the role of magnetic resonance spectroscopy (MRS) in imaging the cancer patient;
  • Assess the role of diffusion-weighted imaging (DWI) in imaging the cancer patient; and
  • Differentiate the strengths and weaknesses of DCE-MRI, ASL, MRS, and DWI for imaging the cancer patient, and select the appropriate technique.
