WEEKEND EDUCATIONAL COURSE
Imaging Microstructure
SKILL LEVEL: Intermediate to Advanced
ORGANIZERS: Daniel C. Alexander, Ph.D., Adam W. Anderson, Ph.D., & Derek K. Jones, Ph.D., DipIPSM
Sunday, 31 May 2015

OVERVIEW
Microstructural imaging is an emerging technology that combines non-invasive imaging with biophysical modelling to map features of tissue microstructure. Several MR modalities contribute to the paradigm. This session will give a cross section of the basics of each technique, explain how they can be mutually informative, and provide the biomedical context for their application.

TARGET AUDIENCE
Medical physicists developing microstructural imaging techniques and biomedical researchers using imaging for studying tissue in health and disease.

EDUCATIONAL OBJECTIVES

Upon completion of this course, participants should be able to:

  • Implement pulse sequences, image reconstruction, and analysis methods for quantitative MR modalities that can measure tissue microstructure;
  • Develop new models that explore the potential for complimentary application of multiple modalities; and
  • Identify new applications of single and multi-modal microstructure imaging in biomedical imaging.
