Session Number: S-Th-01

Overview
This course discusses findings in primary and metastatic liver malignancy with regard to assessing response to therapies (both liver-directed and systemic). This course will discuss how to optimize image acquisition for state-of-the-art image quality and as short as possible scan time.

Target Audience
This course is aimed at radiologists, imaging scientists and MR technologists who wish to review liver cancer imaging for response to therapies.

Educational Objectives
As a result of attending this course, participants should be able to:
-Describe a high quality liver MRI protocol;
-Explain the MRI findings involved in diagnosing primary and metastatic liver cancer;
-Illustrate the MRI findings of response to chemotherapy for primary liver cancer; and
-Illustrate the MRI findings of response to chemotherapy for metastatic cancer to the liver.

  Primary Liver Cancer Response
Richard Do
Primary liver cancer response can be evaluated by a number of competing response criteria, using CT or MRI, as well as advanced MR imaging techniques. The learning objectives for this course are: to recognize the commonly used therapies for HCC, to compare response criteria used in therapeutic trials, and to apply the new LI-RADS Treatment Response Algorithm.

07:25

  Metastatic Disease Response
Dow-Mu Koh
Metastatic disease to the liver is common and is cause of morbidity and mortality. In this talk, we will discuss the MR imaging techniques available to assess the response liver metastases to treatment. In particularly, we will discuss the use of diffusion-weighted MRI and dynamic contrast enhanced MRI. The potential of using MRI to assess the effects of treatment on the liver will be discussed. The challenges of evaluating response to new immunotherapies will also be highlighted.
