Overview
This course will present recent studies demonstrating the potential utility of DTI to assess tissues outside the brain.

Target Audience
Scientists and clinicians interested in applications of DTI outside the brain.

Educational Objectives
As a result of attending this course, participants should be able to:
-Identify the types of tissue microstructures outside the brain that give rise to diffusion anisotropy;
-Describe the types of artifacts commonly encountered for DTI outside the brain and how to mitigate them; and
-List the types of tissue changes that may be detected by DTI outside the brain.

The objective of this talk is to present an overview on diffusion tensor imaging of the muscle. In this presentation we will 1. describe muscle anatomy to identify key microstructure properties that can be assessed by DTI; 2)    Present the different static and dynamic DTI acquisition techniques and discuss optimal acquisition parameters; 3) Describe the models to extract tissue microstructure from DTI data; 4) Have an up-to-date overview of the current applications of DTI to skeletal muscle.
