Tuesday, 19 June 2018
S03  16:15 - 18:15 Moderators:  Jenny Bencardino, James Linklater

Skill Level: Intermediate

Session Number: Tu-08

Overview
This course will provide an overview of current and emerging hybrid imaging methods for application in diagnostic and interventional musculoskeletal radiology and their clinical utility for a variety of bone, joint, and soft-tissue disorders. In addition to selected clinical cases, the speakers will discuss optimization of imaging protocols, technical challenges and the utility of various radiotracers for PET-MR.

Target Audience
Clinicians and researchers interested in learning about hybrid imaging techniques for MSK applications.

Educational Objectives
As a result of attending this course, participants should be able to:
-Summarize current and emergent applications of hybrid imaging techniques in diagnostic and interventional MSK radiology;
-Describe specific clinical scenarios in which hybrid imaging techniques are superior over non-hybrid methods, particularly for oncological, inflammatory, and degenerative MSK disorders;
-Explain how MR-US fusion improves the accuracy of image-guided MSK interventions; and
-Identify technical challenges associated with hybrid imaging techniques.

16:15

  MR-US Fusion in MSK Interventions
Ronald Adler
The basic principles of MR-US fusion and potential applications to the musculoskeletal system will be discussed. Development of a simple phantom for training will be described. Examples of injections performed to date will be shown to illustrate potential applications and challenges in obtaining adequate registration.

16:55

MR-Guided Focused Ultrasound: Musculoskeletal Applications and Research Highlights
Matthew Bucknor
Overview of clinical indications, research highlights, and future directions of musculoskeletal applications of magnetic resonance-guided focused ultrasound.

17:35

  Non-Oncologic MSK PET-MR
Feliks Kogan
New PET-MRI systems promise to combine high-resolution morphologic MR imaging with simultaneous functional information from PET to potentially provide a complete imaging modality for studying musculoskeletal disease. This educational talk will discuss emerging applications of PET-MRI in non-oncologic musculoskeletal disease and comparative advantages of PET-MRI over hybrid PET-computed tomography (PET/CT) systems or MRI alone. Technical considerations and challenges as they specifically relate to PET-MRI of musculoskeletal disease will also be discussed.
