We propose a diffusion acquisition scheme facilitating the
simultaneous collection of dynamic diffusion measures as well as DTI metrics
comparable to those from a standard diffusion sequence.
Figure 4. FA (top
row) and color FA (bottom row) calculated from a standard 15 direction DTI
sequence (b = 1000 s/mm2) and the proposed nested cubes DTI
acquisitions (b = 1000 s/mm2). A white matter mask was generated
using a threshold of FA>0.20. FA between acquisitions had low root mean
square error in white matter voxels. The projection of the 15 direction DTI FA color
map on the nested cubes DTI FA color map indicated a high degree of similarity
in large white matter tracts.
Figure 2. tSNR of trace, ADC and eADC were compared between two dynamic diffusion
acquisitions (b = 1000 s/mm2), one with diffusion weighting along
three mutually orthogonal directions repeated five times for a total of three
unique orientations (left) and the other consisting of diffusion
weighting along five sets of three mutually orthogonal directions (nested cubes) for a total of fifteen unique directions (middle). Color bar is on a log scale. Probability distributions of tSNR in gray and white matter
voxels for trace, ADC and eADC were similar between the two acquisitions (right).
