Clinical MR Physics: An Alternative Career Pathway
Member-Initiated Symposium
Tuesday, 18 May 2021
Concurrent 7 16:00 -  16:30 Moderators: Matt Bernstein & Xiaohong Joe Zhou
Session Number: MIS-04
Parent Session: Clinical MR Physics: An Alternative Career Pathway

Session Number:MIS-04

Organizers
Xiaohong Joe Zhou, Matt Bernstein, H. Doug Morris

Overview
Clinical MR physics plays a key role in translating MR research to clinical practice. The demand for clinical MR scientists is increasing globally, yet the ISMRM has not held a focused session on the professional aspects of clinical MR physics. The proposed symposium addresses this unmet need with two objectives. First, we will systematically discuss aspects of clinical MR physics to benefit the growing number of clinical MR scientists in the ISMRM community. Second, we will provide a practical guide to our trainee members on an alternative career pathway in clinical MR physics. The symposium will start with three 10-minute talks to provide an overview of the expanding roles of clinical MR scientists around the globe, followed by four 15-minute talks on professional aspects of clinical MR physics. The program will conclude with a panel discussion. All speakers are the leading experts in clinical MR physics. They represent the three ISMRM geographic regions (Europe, North America, and the ROW) as well as both genders. The three organizers have been working together for years as the ISMRM representatives on the American Board of Medical Physics. With a strong focus on professional development for the ISMRM members, we believe that the proposed symposium will contribute to diversifying the scope of the Annual Meeting.

Target Audience
MR scientists and clinicians who are interested in clinical MR physics; trainees who are interested in becoming clinical MR scientists.
