MR Neurography: A Diagnostic & Interventional Tool in the Management of Patients with Peripheral Neuropathy
Member-Initiated Symposium
Monday, 17 May 2021
Concurrent 8 13:00 -  13:30 Moderators: Shivani Ahlawat
Session Number: MIS-20
Parent Session: MR Neurography: A Diagnostic & Interventional Tool in the Management of Patients with Peripheral Neuropathy

Session Number:MIS-20

Organizers
Shivani Ahlawat

Overview
MR neurography is becoming a relevant and established tool in the management of patients with peripheral neuropathy. Our session will focus on the clinical application of MR neurography in routine daily practice, highlighting typically encountered challenges in both image acquisition and interpretation. Our pattern-based approach will focus on the MR neurography assessment of peripheral nerves as well as skeletal muscles analogous to a neuromuscular exam in an electrophysiology lab. This cutting-edge and evidence-based session will run the gamut of timely topics such as optimization of metal artifact reduction in patients with peripheral neuropathy and instrumentation, distinction between malignant and benign peripheral nerve disease, neuropathic manifestations of COVID-19, and the role of MR neurography-guided interventions in the management of peripheral neuropathy. Our preferred format is online with inclusion of diverse clinical case mix and emphasis on how to generate high-quality MR images and interpret imaging at a workstation. The role of MR neurography and its impact on diagnostic thinking as well as therapeutic management of patients with peripheral nerve disorders will be highlighted using clinical vignettes.

Target Audience
Radiologists and radiology technologists.

Educational Objectives
As a result of attending this course, participants should be able to:
Upon completion of this course, participants should be able to: - Describe optimal techniques for the performance of MR neurography, including technical challenges and their solutions such as metal artifact reduction techniques; - Recognize the normal appearance of peripheral nerves on high-resolution MR neurography; - Identify an abnormal peripheral nerve on MR neurography and generate a succinct differential diagnosis based on imaging pattern and clinical context; and - Explain the role of MR neurography-guided interventions in the management of patients with peripheral neuropathy.
