Session Number: M-05

Overview
This hands-on course reveals the back scene of how an MR image is obtained. It introduces concepts physicists and engineers handel in their every day lives and de-mystify RF coils, FIDs, and k-spaces.
The session will include a short introduction on RF & gradient coil building and a hands-on demo session where attendees will have the opportunity to see how simple coils are built that will be used to acquire live some FIDs and echoes.

Target Audience
The target audience includes clinicians and scientists new to the field of MRI or who wish to deepen their knowledge in MRI fundamentals.

Educational Objectives
As a result of attending this course, participants should be able to:
• Define basic NMR and MRI principles;
• Apply how to build simple RF and gradient coils; and
• Explain how the MR signal is acquired.

16:00   RF Coil Introduction & Building
Ye Li
16:40   Gradient Coils Introduction & Building
Sebastian Littin
17:20   Signal Acquisition
Teresa Guallart Naval
Impact: We will explore the key components involved in MR signal acquisition: reception chain, the control system, the user interface, and the fundamental sequences required to generate and measure the signal.
