Skill Level: Basic to Advanced
Session Number: WE-03
No CME/CE Credit

Session Number: WE-03

Overview
Advanced CMR topics are presented, with their research applications and prospects for clinical use. Each talk will summarise the basis of the advanced method, proceeding to research applications, and what it still needs for routine clinical use.

Target Audience
Attendees may be from any background. This course aims to explain a range of interesting advanced methods. Only basic knowledge of 1H MRI (not MRS) and the word for heart muscle are assumed.

Educational Objectives
As a result of attending this course, participants should be able to:
• Describe the basics of the advanced CMR methods included.;
• State the current and incipient CMR research applications of each method; and
• State whether each method has yet found clinical uses, or their prospects as routine CMR.

08:00   Advanced Myocardial Contrast Mechanisms
Aurelien Bustin
08:25   Cardiovascular Contrast Agents
Eric Gale
08:50   PET-CMR & Other Hybrid Cardiac Methods
Muhummad Sohaib Nazir
09:15   X-Nuclei Spectroscopy for Cardiac Metabolism
Jae Mo Park
Impact: Non-proton MR methods offer unique metabolic biomarkers for myocardial diseases. This talk covers the basic principles of 31P, 23Na, and  HP 13C MRS, focusing on key metabolic mechanisms centered around OXPHOS and ATP synthesis, and the potential for integration them into routine clinical CMR.
09:40   Break & Meet the Teachers

10:10   Myocardial Oxygenation (BOLD)
Elizabeth Hillier
10:35   Myocardial Diffusion
Maryam Afzali
Impact: Diffusion MRI enables non-invasive assessment of cardiac microstructure and disease-related remodelling. This talk covers technical advances, clinical research applications, and future prospects for integrating diffusion MRI into routine cardiology practice.
11:00   Cardiovascular 4D Flow MRI
Liang Zhong
Impact: 4D flow MRI enables comprehensive, time-resolved blood flow visualization, offering insights into cardiac function, valvular disease, and vascular abnormalities. This talk explores its clinical applications, AI-driven analysis, and future impact on precision medicine.
11:25   Fetal CMR
Erik Hedstrom
