13:00 -  16:50
Moderators: Tevfik Ismail & Edythe Tham
Skill Level: Basic
Session Number: WE-11
CME Credit

Session Number: WE-11

Overview
This course covers the fundamental clinical applications and methodologies of cardiovascular MRI. Sessions include the following aspects of CMR imaging: (i) an explanation of the physics of CMR-specific sequences and how these are employed for the evaluation of cardiac function and tissue characterisation, (ii) how to circumvent respiratory and cardiac motion, (iii) flow and angiography, (iv) parametric mapping, (v) perfusion, (vi) late gadolinium enhancement and ECV, and (vii) analysis of cardiac images.

Target Audience
Clinicians and Technologists who wish to acquire an understanding of the main clinical applications of CMR and understand the technical challenges and limitations associated with the modality. Physicists and Engineers seeking to obtain a basic understanding of clinical requirements.

Educational Objectives
As a result of attending this course, participants should be able to:
• Describe the basic CMR examination for left and right heart anatomy and function;
• Evaluate the methods used to assess ischaemia, fibrosis and flow; and
• Have a basic understanding of image analysis.

13:00   Cardiovascular Specific Physics & Artefacts
Vivek Muthurangu
13:25   Coping with Cardiac & Respiratory Motion
Oliver Schad
13:50 Cardiac Function
Christopher François
Impact: Attendees will learn the fundamentals of how the heart works and the MRI techniques used to assess global and regional cardiac function using clinically available methods, including in patients with arrhythmias and implanted cardiac devices.
14:15 An Overview of Flow and MR Angiography: Basic Principles and Clinical Applications
Yasuo Takehara, Yasuo Takehara
Impact: MR angiography techniques are reviewed, comparing contrast-enhanced methods with non-contrast options (inflow-based, cardiac phase-dependent, and relaxation-weighted imaging) and 4D Flow MRI. Clinical cases show improved diagnostics and care.
14:40   Break & Meet the Teachers

15:10   Applications of Cardiac Perfusion
Kevin Steel
Impact: Cardiac perfusion is an essential part of the CMR toolbox.  Rest and stress perfusion add value to answering questions proposed by referring providers. This talk will focus on cardiac perfusion, case studies and provide real examples how perfusion can significantly enhance CMR program growth.
15:35   Late Gadolinium Enhancement Imaging & ECV
Yash Patel
Impact: LGE and ECV represent complementary, robust tools in modern CMR for myocardial tissue characterization. Their integration into clinical workflows improves the ability to diagnose, risk stratify and manage patients with both ischemic and non-ischemic heart disease.
16:00   Clinical Analysis of Cardiac MR Images
Amedeo Chiribiri
16:25   Parametric Mapping
Vlad Zaha
