Session Number: WE-27

Overview
This course will review the role of MRI in pregnancy. MRI safety, imaging of the placenta including placental emergencies, imaging of the fetus including fetal emergencies, and extra-uterine abdominal conditions will be discussed.

Target Audience
Trainees, radiologists, and MRI scientists that image pregnant women.

Educational Objectives
As a result of attending this course, participants should be able to:
• Describe MRI safety issues related to imaging the fetus and pregnant woman;
• List indications for fetal and placental MRI; and
• Implement MRI techniques for imaging the placenta, fetus, and gravid woman in clinic.

13:15 MRI Safety in Pregnancy
Filiz Yetisir
Impact: In this educational talk, risks associated with MRI specific to pregnancy such as safety of 3 Tesla MRI for the fetus, early gestational age imaging, using parallel transmission or high dielectric pads, position of the pregnant woman and imaging pregnant women and not the fetus will be covered.
13:45   Potential of Low / Mid Field MRI for Pregnancy Imaging
Kelly Payette
Impact: Low-field fetal MRI (0.55T) provides detailed prenatal imaging, capturing the entire uterus and maternal pelvis. It reduces artifacts, enables structural and advanced quantitative imaging, and offers a homogeneous field in a wider bore, improving accessibility.
14:15   MRI of the Placenta
Esra Abaci Turk
Impact: Monitoring placenta throughout pregnancy is a critical component of antenatal care. MRI provides a tremendous potential for monitoring placental structure and function.
14:45   Break & Meet the Teachers

15:15   MRI of Placental Emergencies
Lisa Story
Impact: MRI findings of obstetric conditions associated with abnormal placentation.
15:45 Imaging of the Fetal Brain
Su-Zhen Dong
Impact: This talk will cover the process of fetal brain development, fetal MRI clinical and scientific sequences, normal MRI features of fetal brain, MRI diagnosis of different congenital brain malformations in fetuses, especially cortical dysplasia and tuberous sclerosis.
16:15   Imaging of the Fetal Body
Jungwhan Choi
Impact: This talk will cover protocols for common fetal indications; discuss fetal lung maturation; review imaging of common fetal body pathologies; review prognostic indicators used by clinicians for counseling; and spark thought about what lies in store for the future of fetal body MRI.
16:45   Abdominal Pain in Pregnancy
Hero Hussain
