“The SMRT leadership looks forward in its continued discussions with the SNMMI Technologists Section…”

The Society of Nuclear Medicine and Molecular Imaging (SNMMI) held its annual meeting in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada on 8-12 June, 2013. Continuing our ongoing collaboration since 2011, the SMRT co-organized an educational session for the SNMMI Technologist Section Vancouver meeting. SMRT Policy Board member Michael Schlenk, M.S., R.T. (R)(MR) presented “Magnetic Resonance Imaging: A General Overview” on Tuesday, 11 June 2013. He gave a brief history of MRI, basic magnet design, basic physics, safety and addressed applications including, neuro, spine, MSK, and vascular. He concluded with some advanced applications including cardiac, DTI, functional MRI and PET/MRI images. His expertise was well appreciated by the attendees. The SMRT leadership looks forward in its continued discussions with the SNMMI Technologists Section as there will be important future work to be done based upon the recent publication of the PET/MR consensus paper in June 2013.

I would like to remind everyone to please mark your calendars and plan to attend the 2013 Associated Sciences Courses at RSNA, in Chicago, Illinois, USA. For those of you who have not attended these sessions in the past, these are courses comprised of a variety of subjects as the objective is to provide educational programs to associated sciences personnel. This year the SMRT has two hosted sessions that I think everyone will find informative. The first session will be conducted the morning of Tuesday, 3 December 2013 and will feature new technology information on PET/MR, MR Elastography and Silent MR. In the afternoon on Tuesday, a session on the topic of social media in medical imaging will be presented. Please check the program details. As the SMRT External Relations Liaison I hope to see you there!
