LETTER FROM THE EDITOR

Julie Strandt-Peay, B.S.M., R.T., (R)(MR), FSMRT
Signals Editor
Greetings,

The E-Signals Newsletter is sent via electronic mail to SMRT members in good standing. If you are not a member but have received this publication we hope that you will consider joining the worldwide organization specifically designed to provide education and information to MR Technologists and Radiographers. It is the goal to provide members with an issue of E-Signals on a more or less quarterly schedule each year, which will shift slightly due to the various times of the annual meeting.

This second quarter issue of E-Signals features the 2013 Annual Meeting held in Salt Lake City, Utah, USA. We begin by meeting the new President, Ben Kennedy and learn of his experience and what he strives to achieve in his term. Program Committee Chair, Barry Southers explains how the attendees truly make this an international organization. Those SMRT members who have served well are recognized as reported by acting Nominations and Awards Chair, Julia Lowe. Rosemary Fisher, Education Committee Chair announces awards for posters, proffered papers, and the JAK Award for Professional Development. The Joint ISMRM/SMRT Forum was co-chaired by Executive Member, Glenn Cahoon who describes the successful session.

Vera Kimbrell, Past-president, moves into the role as Chair of the Nominations and Awards committees. She announces the “Call for Nominations” with descriptions of what the membership is asked to consider. Significant effort by External Liaison, Cindy Comeau has led to a joint publication with the Nuclear Medicine community. This is an exceptional achievement in the USA which has global implications as MR/PET is expanding into the healthcare arena.

SMRT members and non-members alike appreciate the efforts of Anne Marie Sawyer, editor of the home study series. Anne is diligent in producing multiple products for MR Technologists and Radiographers to earn continuing education credit. The current offering covers cardiac MR imaging and contains two pertinent articles for your study.

One of the goals of the SMRT is to provide timely information to the practicing MR community. To assist in achieving that goal the following have agreed to serve on the E-Signals newsletter committee for this year: Denise Davis, Ben Kennedy, Vera Kimbrell,Vanessa Orchard, Titti Owman, Laurian Rohoman, Anne Marie Sawyer, Raschel van Luijk-Snoeks, and Rhonda Walcarius. These individuals represent several areas of the world and will channel information through the E-Signals to you. As always your suggestions for topics and items of interest are welcome.
