Phase Contrast MR Imaging: Techniques and Applications

The SMRT Educational Seminars (Volume 13, Number 3), has been approved for 2.5 Category A Continuing Educational credits.

Read the SMRT Educational Seminars (Volume 13, Number 3), "Phase Contrast MR Imaging: Techniques and Applications" and complete the quiz and official Answer Form at the back of the article. To receive credit the quiz must be completed with a score of 75% or better. Completion of all questions with a passing score will earn a total of 2.5 category A Continuing Education credits.
 
SMRT members should send the completed Answer Form to the SMRT Education Department for scoring. The certificate will state the CE reference number and awarded CE credits. Members receiving a score less than 75% will be notified and given the option of taking the quiz an additional two times. Members should retain their CE Certificate for their Continuing Education registry requirements.

Cardiovascular Flow Measurement with Phase-Contrast MR Imaging: Basic Facts and Implementation
  • Review the basic MR principles of phase contrast imaging.
  • Describe prospective and retrospective gating techniques.
  • Discuss errors and limitations of phase contrast MR imaging including the mismatch of velocity encoding, inadequate resolution and phase offset errors.
  • Show examples of flow and phase images and resulting graphed measurements.
  • Review guidelines for measurement and data analysis.
  • Give example of scan protocols and parameters for specific anatomical areas and vasculature.

Applications of Phase-Contrast Flow and Velocity Imaging in Cardiovascular MRI

  • Review the fundamentals of phase contrast MR imaging and velocity encoding.
  • Describe the pulse sequences used for phase contrast acquisitions.
  • Explain phase contrast image processing methods.
  • Discuss methods of applying phase velocity mapping for specific diseases and physiological conditions.
  • Show examples of flow and phase images and resulting graphed measurements.
