SMRT Educational Seminars

Foundation of MRI: Imaging Sequences
Volume 17, Number 1

Accreditation:
The SMRT Educational Seminars (Volume 17, Number 1), has been approved for 1.5 Category A Continuing Educational credits.

Read the SMRT Educational Seminars (Volume 17, Number 1), "Foundation of MRI: Imaging Sequences" and complete the quiz.

To receive credit the quiz must be completed with a score of 75% or better. Completion of all questions with a passing score will earn a total of 1.5 category A Continuing Education credits. The certificate will state the CE reference number and awarded CE credits.

Members receiving a score less than 75% will be notified and given the option of taking the quiz up to two additional times.

Members should retain their CE Certificate for their Continuing Education registry requirements.

Educational Objectives
Spin Echo Magnetic Resonance Imaging
  • Describe the principles of spin echo formation;
  • Review spatial encoding of spin echo imaging;
  • Discuss different image contrasts that can be generated with spin echo imaging;
  • Explain the properties of spin echo imaging including interleaved acquisitions, magnetization transfer effects and flow effects;
  • Compare spin echo imaging to gradient refocused, and spin echo imaging at 3T versus 1.5T;
  • Describe turbo spin echo imaging and other spin echo variants and spin echo based preparations; and
  • Review clinical applications of spin echo imaging and show image examples.

Fundamentals of Balanced Steady State Free Precession MRI

  • Explain the theory of signal formation in balanced SSFP;
  • Describe imaging with Balanced Steady State Free Precession;
  • Discuss the image contrast and SNR of BSSFP;
  • Review the modification possibilities of the image contrast in BSSFP; and
  • Describe the clinical applications of BSSFP and show image examples.
