ISMRM WORKSHOP SERIES ~ 11-14 September 2015

ISMRM Workshop on Imaging Based Measures of Osteoarthritis
Pacific Grove, CA, USA

This workshop explores the rapidly developing MRI and other imaging modalities for assessment of osteoarthritis (OA). The main emphasis will be on the technological development of new applications of MRI in osteoarthritis and their potential applications in clinical research, clinical trials and eventually in treatment of OA, including application of rapid imaging for morphology, biochemical imaging, and ultra-short echo time imaging. The talks will focus on recent advances in designs of pulse sequence, coil designs, and applications to enhance our understanding of the OA disease process. The workshop will greatly emphasize inclusiveness of international speakers and attendees.

This workshop is designed for:
  • Physicists;
  • Engineers;
  • Computer Scientists;
  • Radiologists;
  • Rheumatologists and Orthopedic Surgeons;
  • Students working on pulse sequences, RF coil design, image reconstruction, musculoskeletal and body imaging;
  • MRI technologists;
  • Clinical investigators; and
  • Anyone pursuing imaging of OA.

Upon completion of this activity, participants will be able to:
  • Describe the state-of-the art in MR imaging of OA;
  • List currently available, established or emerging MRI techniques;
  • Discuss the challenges and opportunities for measurements of OA in all joint tissues, including bone, cartilage, synovium, menisci, and ligaments;
  • Review the use of MR imaging for clinical research and clinical applications in OA; and
  • Explore the research needs for moving the field forward on MRI Biomarker Qualification and regulatory acceptance.
