Overview
MR imaging has shown great potential in determining the appropriate treatment for cancer patients and monitoring the response of a tumor to various therapeutics. However, the endpoints of these studies often neglect to consider the effects of therapy on patients quality of life and cognitive function. This symposium will discuss the risks and benefits of different cancer treatments on prolonging survival with diminished quality of life and how MR imaging can play a role in monitoring these changes. Through the set of selected presentations, the MR Cancer study group aims to provide a different perspective for the tools and methods we are developing as an imaging community that are capable of measuring the impact of cancer treatment on patients’ quality of life and cognition.

For this symposium, we have invited 6 speakers to give 15-minute talks on their personal experiences in evaluating the effects of cancer therapy, using imaging as surrogate markers of therapeutic effects, and alternate therapeutic interventions to minimize the effects of cancer therapy. The first talk will start with an overview of the importance of the side effects of cancer therapy on quality of life and cognition. The remaining presentations will each focus on using imaging as a tool to either identify, monitor, or evaluate the effects of cancer therapy and mitigation strategies on cognition and quality of life.

Target Audience
Cancer imaging researchers, clinicians, and trainees who are interested in learning more about the effects of therapy from a patient’s perspective and

Educational Objectives
As a result of attending this course, participants should be able to:
