Session Number: S-Th-03

Overview
Iron and fat quantification using confounder-corrected chemical shift encoded MRI is being rapidly adopted for the non-invasive quantitative assessment of liver iron deposition and hepatic steatosis. In this session, the latest technical and clinical developments will be reviewed.

Target Audience
Scientists, engineers, and clinicians interested in liver iron and fat quantification.

Educational Objectives
As a result of attending this course, participants should be able to:
- Explain the essentials of iron and fat quantification using chemical shift encoded MRI;
- Identify emerging technical advances in liver iron and fat quantification; and
- Name emerging clinical developments relevant to liver iron and fat quantification.

07:00   What’s New in Liver Fat Quantification? Takeshi Yokoo
07:30 What’s New in Liver Iron Quantification? Diego Hernando

Keywords: Body: Liver, Image acquisition: Quantification, Contrast mechanisms: Relaxometry

MR-based liver iron quantification has advanced in recent years, with results including reproducibility across centers and vendors, quantification at 3T, 1.5T, and 0.55T, free-breathing acquisition methods, artificial intelligence-based analysis, and evaluation of the relationships between various quantitative MR parameters. This lecture will briefly review the significance and seminal studies relevant to MR-based iron quantification, followed by new developments and results over the past 2-3 years. The lecture will close with a summary of the state of the art and remaining gaps and unmet needs.
