“This is a great opportunity for members unable to attend the annual meeting to gain some insight into the quality and range of topics presented at the annual meetings.”
Dear MRI Technologists and Radiographers,

As chair of the SMRT Publications Committee this year I would like to introduce myself and announce the new video home studies from the 2013 SMRT Meeting in Salt Lake City which will soon be available on the SMRT website.

Video home studies, at no additional costs for SMRT members, provide an excellent educational resource and accreditation (Category A CE credits) on completion of the quiz category questions. Studies are also approved for AIR (Australian Institute of Radiography), NZIMRT (New Zealand Institute of Radiation Technology) and CPD Now (The College of Radiographers, United Kingdom) continuing professional development (CPD) activities. This is a great opportunity for members unable to attend the annual meeting to gain some insight into the quality and range of topics presented at the annual meetings.

A small number of video home studies are available free to non-members through the web site, so please guide and encourage any colleagues and friends that are non-members to the site. http://www.ismrm.org/smrt/

Members should also be reminded to continue checking the website for video home studies from a selection of the ISMRM and SMRT meeting lectures that will also be accredited and free to members. These lectures have been specifically chosen for their interest and relevance to the MR Technologist/Radiographer.

E-Signals, as you may have seen, is now being posted on the MRI technologist list serve as well as being emailed to members. I must encourage any of you not already members of the list serve to join up. There is no fee, the list serve is open to all and offers an amazing insight into discussions on so many MR topics. Even if you don’t feel you would participate personally in discussions, watching online debates is a brilliant way of finding out what is going on in MR departments around the world and gaining information on issues and concerns we all share.

I have been a member of the SMRT for six years and became involved in the organisation while working in Melbourne, Australia, where a large active Chapter exists. I have now relocated back to the UK and would like to increase awareness of the SMRT to the European radiography community. I take this opportunity to ask my European colleagues to contact us with any ideas or suggestions of what they would like to see from the SMRT in relation to membership benefits and meeting and website content.

With the next annual SMRT/ISMRM meeting being held in Milan in 2014, this is a great time for European MR Radiographers to become more involved and also to appreciate all the benefits the SMRT membership has to offer.
