By Nina U. Salman, AfCGI, M.Sc., B.Sc.(Hons), 2026-2027 ISMRT President

Standing before our members in Cape Town as ISMRT president was both humbling and deeply exciting. It was also an opportunity to reflect on where we are as a Society and where we can go together in the years ahead.
Before looking forward, I want to recognize the leadership that has helped bring ISMRT to this moment. I am deeply grateful to Adam Scotson for his guidance, mentorship, and support, and to Brandy, the Executive Committee, and Central Office staff whose dedication continues to strengthen our Society and serve our members around the world.
As we look toward Vancouver and beyond, my vision for ISMRT is clear: to build a society that is not only global in reach but truly connected in spirit. A community where every member—regardless of geography, background, or career stage—feels supported, valued, empowered, and inspired to contribute with confidence. We already have strong foundations in place, and my goal is to build on that momentum by strengthening engagement, accessibility, collaboration, and sustainable global growth.
Growth, however, is not only about attracting new members. It is also about ensuring the members we already have continue to feel connected, valued, and proud to remain part of ISMRT for years to come. Our members are our Society advocates, and supporting and retaining them must be just as important as expanding our reach.
One of the most powerful reminders of this came during the Annual Meeting in Cape Town, a city that provided the perfect backdrop for a truly global MRI community coming together. Members from every corner of the world came together to experience the energy, education, collaboration, and inspiration that comes from being part of an ISMRT Annual Meeting. Those moments reinforce the importance of community and demonstrate the unique value of belonging to a global professional society.
I encourage every member to share that experience with colleagues, departments, hospitals, and universities. Personal conversations remain one of the most effective ways to inspire others to join our profession’s global community and discover the opportunities ISMRT provides.
As president, I am committed to active listening. Hearing different perspectives, valuing diverse voices, and ensuring members feel included, respected, and heard. I am equally committed to transparency, open communication, and accountability, so that trust and clarity remain at the center of everything we do.
Technology will continue to play an important role in connecting our members. Through the One Community Hub and expanded digital engagement opportunities, we can create even greater opportunities for discussion, mentorship, collaboration, and accessible education across every region of the world.
Education will always remain at the heart of ISMRT. We will continue providing practical, relevant, and high-quality learning opportunities for radiographers and technologists at every stage of their careers—from foundational MRI education for those entering the field to advanced specialty training for experienced professionals. We will continue our excellent progress and ensure every region has the opportunity and support needed to thrive.
By 2027, I hope we will see an ISMRT that is stronger, more connected, more inclusive, and more globally engaged than ever before. A society delivering real value, meaningful learning and growth opportunities, and genuine support to every member we serve.
The future of ISMRT will not be defined by any one individual. It will be shaped by all of us—united in purpose, driven by belief, and committed to something greater than ourselves and advancing our profession together.
Thank you for your trust, your support, and your belief in the strength of this global MRI community.
Together, we are stronger than any one of us alone.
