ISMRM-Gates Foundation
Knowledge Exchange Fellowship Program

Call for Applications

Application Deadline:

The International Society for Magnetic Resonance in Medicine (ISMRM), in partnership with the Gates Foundation, is pleased to announce the launch of the Knowledge Exchange Research Fellowships.

Building on our successful efforts to bring participants from Lower and Middle Income Countries to the ISMRM Annual Scientific Meeting, where they were paired with Mentors, we are now entering the next phase of our mission: fostering deep, bilateral exchanges of expertise between MRI sites (initially in Africa) and those in higher-resource settings.

This unique fellowship program recognizes that knowledge is a shared resource, and that every site—regardless of location—has valuable insights to offer. The program is designed to encourage a two-way flow of skills, ideas, and training, emphasizing that learning and innovation are reciprocal processes. By connecting MRI professionals from diverse backgrounds, we aim to create lasting partnerships that will elevate the field of magnetic resonance imaging globally.

We now invite applications for these travel exchange partnerships. In your application, we encourage you to:

Articulate the Need: Clearly outline the specific gaps in knowledge at each site and how this exchange will address them.

Define the Training: Explain the form and structure of the proposed training, including how it will be delivered and received.

Describe the Partnership: Share the reasons behind your choice of partner and how your collaboration was established.

Demonstrate Impact: Highlight the potential impact of this fellowship on both sites and how the knowledge gained will be applied in practice.

Sustainability: Discuss your vision for maintaining and expanding this partnership beyond the initial funding period.

Funding Available

In Phase 1 of the Fellowship Program, we envisage funding up to 5 Knowledge Exchange Partnerships.

This funding (which must be justified) is intended to cover all necessary expenses, including visas, vaccinations, travel, accommodation, and subsistence.
