Dear Magnetic Resonance in Medicine Subscribers,

As well as the usual latest research in the areas of magnetic resonance imaging, magnetic resonance spectroscopy, and electron paramagnetic resonance, we also this month publish a review of respiratory motion management in abdominal MRI. We also have a Toolbox Article featuring a real-time reconstruction adjunct to the popular BART software. Toolbox Articles are a relatively new submission category aimed at describing novel and important tools that have value to the wider scientific community. Factors that are considered during review are: (i) the quality and novelty of the tool and whether it addresses an unmet need; (ii) the quality of the description of the tool; (iii) how accessible the tool is for use by the scientific community; and (iv) whether the platform used to distribute the tool is sustainable, with reasonable prospects that the authors will maintain it into the future. Very simple tools, or tools that replicate existing ones or provide minimal value to the community, are not recommended for publication, with a high standard expected for those that are. For further details on this category see the Author Guidelines.

Finally, please note the upcoming deadline for submission of abstracts to the 2027 Annual Meeting in Vancouver. The submissions portal opens on October 1, and the deadline for submission is 23:59 UTC on October 28. For more details please visit here. Good luck!

Best wishes,

Peter Jezzard, PhD

HEADLINES

  • The 2026 virtual issue of MRM Highlights is online. There are several articles about MRI in Africa, along with interviews with the 2025/26 ISMRM and ISMRT presidents, and features on all the YIA finalists (see below for the winners).
  • Don’t forget to keep checking Study Group Virtual Special Issues that can be found at the journal homepage. Most ISMRM Study Groups have created Virtual Special Issues, with the aim of summarising the latest research in these topic areas. The idea is to update these at least annually to ensure that they remain “living documents” and hopefully will be a valuable resource to Study Group members.
  • In partnership with the Reproducible Research Study Group (RRSG) we offer authors the option of a Code Review of any code they provide in a Data Availability Statement. If authors request it in their cover letter, the RRSG will download the code and check that it installs and can be run. For details see here and an editorial on the experiences of the first year of its use here.
