Call for Abstracts
for the 2027 ISMRM & ISMRT Annual Meeting
Deadline for Abstract Submission, Stipend Application & 2027 Membership/Dues:
The Annual Meeting Program Committee (AMPC) invites the submission of abstracts for presentation at the 2027 ISMRM & ISMRT Annual Meeting & Exhibition, taking place 08–13 May 2027 in Vancouver, BC, Canada.
Abstracts must be submitted electronically through the ECHO platform. Submissions undergo peer review by experts appointed by the AMPC. Accepted abstracts are published in the official ISMRM Proceedings and presented during the Annual Meeting.
Submission Guidelines
What’s New for 2027?
The new MD-PhD Tandem Abstract format recognizes and encourages collaboration between clinical and technical experts. It allows a clinician and a collaborating technical expert to submit an abstract as dual first authors and present their work jointly.
In addition, “Deep Dive into New Dimensions” sessions are available for standard ISMRM abstracts. These oral sessions focus on developing or applying MR sensitivity along specific dimensions, such as spatial, temporal, velocity, or exchange dimensions, as well as other quantitative biomarker dimensions. The sessions will be assembled by the AMPC and will be preceded by an introductory talk.
Submission Requirements
- Submit abstracts electronically through the ECHO platform.
- Submit original work that has not been published previously.
- Select the appropriate abstract type and carefully review its requirements.
- Rank your preferred presentation formats: oral presentation, digital poster, and traditional paper poster. While presentation preferences will be considered, the final presentation format will be determined by the AMPC based on the program needs and availability. If your abstract is accepted, you are expected to participate in the Annual Meeting regardless of the presentation format assigned.
- Confirm that an author or designated representative will attend the meeting and present the work in person.
- Acceptance notifications will be sent by email in February 2027.
ISMRT abstracts follow separate submission guidance.
What Each ISMRM Abstract Needs
- Primary Category and Subcategory
- Secondary Category and Subcategory
- One General Keyword
- 40-word Impact statement
- 100-word Synopsis organized into Motivation, Goals, Approach, and Results
- 750-word abstract content
- Up to five (5) figures, with captions limited to 500 characters each
- One Preview Figure
Impact Statement and Synopsis
The Impact Statement and Synopsis should use clear, accessible language that can be understood by members outside the authors’ immediate field. They must contain text only, without equations, images, references, or citations to material in the full abstract.
The 40-word Impact Statement should stand alone and explain why the work matters. Authors should describe how the results could affect scientists, clinicians, patients, future research, or technological capabilities. Impact does not have to be positive or expected; a finding that demonstrates the need for a different approach may also be important.
Authors are encouraged to use relevant abstract keywords in the Synopsis to improve searchability after publication
The 100-word Synopsis should summarize the following four elements:
- Motivation: What specifically motivated the study?
- Goals: What question, technical goal, or advancement did the study address?
- Approach: What overall method or study design was used?
- Results: What principal findings demonstrate how well the goals were achieved?

Preview Figure
Authors must upload one Preview Figure for use on program session pages and preview or teaser pages. The Preview Figure is not part of the abstract review and:
- Should provide a simple, uncluttered representation of the work;
- Must be legible of small sizes, particularly on mobile devices;
- Do not include a caption or small text; and
- The figures will be publicly visible on session pages.
Authors may also upload an optional institutional, project, or consortium logo. If more than one institution must be acknowledged, combine all applicable logos into one image.
Additional Submission Items
- Optional institutional/consortium logo image
- Grant funding, code, data, and supporting links must be included in the Acknowledgements only and will not be shared with reviewers.
Abstract Content Guidelines
- Abstracts must be written in English.
- Content must be scientific, engineering, clinical, or industry-related and may not promote products or companies. Company names may be used only to identify equipment.
- Abstract content is limited to 750 words total. Up to five figures may be included, and each figure caption is limited to 500 characters.
- Clinical recommendations must be evidence-based.
- Research must follow accepted scientific standards.
- Previously rejected abstracts may be resubmitted.
- AI writing tools (e.g., ChatGPT) may be used; however, authors remain responsible for accuracy and integrity of all content. AI tools cannot be listed as authors.
- Falsified data or statements will result in rejection and may affect future submissions.
- Include grant funding, code, data, and supporting links in the Acknowledgements only (not visible to reviewers).

Choosing Your Category & Subcategory
Why Category Selection Matters
Categories, subcategories, and keywords help ISMRM assign appropriate reviewers, organize accepted abstracts into relevant sessions, and make published abstracts easier to find. These options evolve based on submission patterns and feedback from members and the AMPC. Review the available choices with your co-authors before the submission deadline.
View the full list of categories, subcategories, and keywords.
Authors must select:
- Primary category and subcategory (or “category keyword”) from list
- Secondary category and subcategory (or “category keyword”) from list
- One General keyword, from list or supply your own keyword
- The Primary and Secondary Categories may be the same, but their Subcategories should be different.
- If needed, add additional keywords that help characterize the abstract and improve searchability.
ISMRM is unique in that much of our work crosses boundaries, and authors are encouraged to select different Primary and Secondary categories and/or subcategories. We will make every effort to assign reviewers based on both the Primary and Secondary categories and subcategories.
Duplicate Submissions Policy
- Duplicate or significantly overlapping content will be rejected.
- Applies to previously published work and multiple submissions by the same authors.
- Includes submissions across different categories or over multiple years.
- The AMPC determines what constitutes duplication.
- Duplicate submissions may affect future submission eligibility.
- The submission system checks duplicate text and data.
Use good judgment when considering multiple submissions. If the same body of work can reasonably be presented as a single oral presentation, generally only one abstract should be submitted.
Presentation & Withdrawal Policy
- Accepted abstracts must be presented in person in Vancouver.
- Abstracts that cannot be presented in person must be withdrawn before the withdrawal deadline of 25 February 2027.
- Authors must confirm during submission that, irrespective of ultimate assignment for an oral or a poster presentation, a presenter will attend the meeting.
- Failure to present without withdrawing may result in a 3-year abstract submission ban.
Before You Submit
Authors should ensure that:
- The work is original and has not been previously published;
- All co-authors have reviewed and approved the submission;
- Appropriate ethical approvals have been obtained where required;
- All potential conflicts of interest have been disclosed;
- Funding sources have been identified;
- The data accurately represents the study findings;
- The correct abstract type, categories, subcategories, and keywords have been selected;
- An author or designated representative will attend and present the work in person; and
- All submitted material, including content prepared with the assistance of artificial intelligence tools, has been carefully reviewed for accuracy and integrity.
Publication of Abstracts
- Proceedings will be published electronically only.
- Accepted abstracts will be available online two weeks before the meeting for registered attendees.
- Submitted abstracts remain confidential until publication date of 23 April 2027.
- Copyright of accepted abstracts transfers to ISMRM.
- Authors may not withhold proprietary information.
