Welcome
On behalf of the Organising Committee, we are delighted to warmly invite you to attend the 2026 ISMRT MRI Safety Day – New Zealand, taking place on Saturday 14 March, at Faculty of Medical and Health Sciences, University of Auckland, Grafton Campus
Why should you attend?
Building on the success of the 2nd ISMRT MRI Safety Day held in Melbourne in March 2025, with record attendance numbers, this year’s meeting promises to be just as impactful. Due to the overwhelming interest from MR radiographers, physicists, and clinicians, the ISMRT Australian and New Zealand National Chapters are thrilled to once again host world-renowned MRI safety expert, Dr. Frank Shellock, Ph.D., FACR, FISMRM.
MRI safety has always been a central focus of ISMRT’s commitment to high-quality education. Recent global incidents continue to underscore the critical importance of maintaining the highest standards of MRI safety. In the ANZ region, one of the key challenges is the Australian Government’s announcement to deregulate and remove MRI licensing requirements. This change is expected to significantly increase the number of MRI scanner installations and professionals entering the field. As a result, there will be an urgent need for comprehensive MRI safety training and a renewed emphasis on ensuring that all staff working in and around MRI environments are thoroughly educated in safety protocols.
This year’s event will feature field experts joining Dr. Shellock to discuss key clinical MRI safety challenges and solutions, with ample opportunity for audience discussion and questions.
The Australian and New Zealand National Chapters of the ISMRT are recognised leaders in providing high-quality education for MR technologists, radiographers, and health professionals. All profits from our ANZ educational events are reinvested into future educational opportunities in the region. As part of our commitment to advancing global MR education, 10% of the profits from this meeting will also be directed to the MRI Global Outreach Program in collaboration with the ISMRM. This initiative supports MR education and services in low- and lower-middle-income countries (LMIC), with recent efforts aiding professional development in Africa.
