Dear Magnetic Resonance in Medicine Subscribers,
Hopefully, many of you are preparing to set off to wonderful Cape Town for this year’s ISMRM Annual Meeting. Please look out for this year’s MRM Highlights Magazine (the 11th issue to have been produced!), edited once again by Maria Eugenia Caligiuri and that will be distributed throughout the Convention Center. There is a collection of articles about MRI and ISMRM in Africa, as well as interviews with both the ISMRM and ISMRT Presidents, the YIA finalists, and two of the past YIA winners (from 25 years ago), not to mention a peek behind the scenes with MRM’s Managing Editor, Shannon Stepanian, and Editorial Assistant, Brandi Conroy.
Also, as a reminder, there is a session organized by the Junior Fellows on “Meet the Editor: Publishing, Peer Review, and Ideas that (Almost) Made It”. This will be on the Monday at 13:50 in Room 1.40, and will include talks by MRM Deputy Editors Diego Hernando, Susie Huang and Peter Barker, as well as one from me. We will aim to provide a peek inside the editorial process, plus demystify the peer review process, and cover responsible use of AI in publications. Please come along if you can.
Finally, and related to the Junior Fellow session, I want to encourage you to agree to review for the journal when you are asked to. With the proliferation of new journals we are having increasing difficulty in securing willing reviewers. It is part of the ‘fun’ and obligation of academic life to review, and so please consider agreeing when you are invited, especially if you are a co-author on a paper submitted to Magn Reson Med (we will need to find reviewers for your paper too!). It’s also a great way of getting a preview of the literature in your sub-field before it is published. Hopefully the Junior Fellow session will give you a better idea of how the system works, especially if you are new to reviewing papers (or would like to start).
Best wishes,
Peter Jezzard, PhD
HEADLINES
- Don’t forget to keep checking Study Group Virtual Special Issues that can be found at the journal homepage. Most ISMRM Study Groups have created Virtual Special Issues, with the aim of summarising the latest research in these topic areas. The idea is to update these at least annually to ensure that they remain “living documents” and hopefully will be a valuable resource to Study Group members. We have recently added or updated ones from the Ultra High Field Study Group; the Pulmonary MR Study Group; the Quantitative MR Study Group; the Placental and Fetal MRI Study Group; the MR in Radiation Therapy Study Group; the Motion Detection and Correction Study Group; the MR Elastography Study Group; and one that is imminent from the Diffusion MR Study Group!
- In partnership with the Reproducible Research Study Group (RRSG) we offer authors the option of a Code Review of any code they provide in a Data Availability Statement. If authors request it in their cover letter, the RRSG will download the code and check that it installs and can be run. For details see here and an editorial on the experiences of the first year of its use here.
