Qualifications:

  • Nominees must be a Full member of the SMRT for a minimum of two (2) immediate past consecutive years
  • For an officer position, Candidates must be a member who has previously served on the Policy Board for a minimum of one, three-year term
  • Candidates have significant leadership experience within the industry or related organizations.
  • All Candidates must be current members of SMRT

Candidates must have:

  • General knowledge of the strategic direction of the SMRT
  • Knowledge about the programs and goals of the organization
  • Capacity to focus that knowledge on decision making that benefits the organization as a whole
  • Ability and eagerness to deal with values, vision and the long-term future of the organization
  • Demonstrated breadth and depth of management and leadership experience, preferably in a senior leadership role in a large or recognized organization;
  • Financial and/or business acumen or relevant industry or scientific experience;
  • Integrity and high ethical standards;
  • Sufficient time to devote to SMRT’s business as a member of the Board;
  • Ability to oversee, as a member, SMRT business and affairs for the benefit of SMRT members;
  • Ability to comply with the Board’s Code of Conduct; and
  • Demonstrated ability to think independently and work collaboratively.

Attributes of a Well-Oriented Policy Board Member Include:

  • Ability to assist the SMRT with engagement of non-traditional volunteers
  • Ability to drive the development of ideas to advance the industry
  • Excellent communication skills with an appreciation for diversity
  • Ability to participate assertively in deliberation
  • Understands the relationship between the SMRT and ISMRM
  • Feels comfortable participating during Board meetings and is not hesitant in asking questions, voicing concerns, or offering contrary perspectives
  • Understands the policies and governance documents of the SMRT
  • Understands the roles and responsibilities of a Board member and those of leadership, staff and committees
  • Has a strategic focus and is able to put Board discussions into context along with a grounding in historical decisions

Commitments from Board Members:
If you agree to be considered as a nominee for an officer or Board position with SMRT, you should be aware of the following criteria:

  • One year term of service for Officers; Three year term of service for Board members
  • Attendance at four (4) official board meetings that take place each year
    • April/May in conjunction with Annual Meeting
    • August teleconference
    • November teleconference
    • February teleconference
  • Officers must participate in scheduled Executive Committee conference calls (quarterly)
  • New Board members must participate in the Board orientation prior to the start of the Annual Meeting
  • Board members are assigned as a Chair to one of SMRT’s committees or task forces with the expectation that they will participate in regular committee conference calls and activity in addition to regular communication with the committee/task force chair.
