Frank G. Shellock, Ph.D., FACR, FISMRM

Dr. Frank G. Shellock is a physiologist with 40 years of experience conducting investigations in the field of MRI. He is the President of Shellock R&D Services, Inc., the Director of MRI Safety and an Adjunct Clinical Professor of Radiology and Medicine at the Keck School of Medicine, University of Southern California. As a commitment to MRI safety, he created and maintains the internationally popular website, www.MRIsafety.com.

Dr. Shellock has authored more than 270 publications in the peer-reviewed literature. His medical textbooks include the Reference Manual for Magnetic Resonance Safety, Implants and Devices (nineteen editions); Magnetic Resonance Procedures: Health Effects and Safety; Kinematic MRI of the Joints: Functional Anatomy, Kinesiology, and Clinical Applications; and MRI Bioeffects, Safety, and Patient Management (two editions).

Dr. Shellock is a member of the American Society for Testing and Materials (ASTM) International. He has served multiple times on the ACR Subcommittee on MR Safety for the American College of Radiology, the MRI Safety Committee for the International Society for Magnetic Resonance in Medicine (ISMRM), and the MRI Safety Committee for the International Society for Radiographers and Technologists (ISMRT).

Meng Law, MBBS, FRANZCR, FASFNR

Meng is currently the Program Director of Radiology and Nuclear Medicine at Alfred Health, Professor and Director of iBRAIN (integrated Bioinformatics Research in AI and Neuroimaging) Monash University. He undertook his undergraduate and specialty training in Melbourne but had been working in the USA for almost 20 years.  He comes to us most recently from the USC Keck Medical Centre in Los Angeles, where he was the Director of Neuroradiology, Neuroradiology Fellowship Program Director, Director of NIA USC Alzheimer Disease Research Center, Neuroimaging Core and Medical Director of the Stevens Institute of Neuroimaging and Informatics where he was also the Professor of Radiology, Neurology & Neurological Surgery USC Keck School of Medicine as well as Professor of Biomedical Engineering USC Viterbi School of Engineering.

Prior to California, Meng held Associate Professorial roles at Mt Sinai School of Medicine, the New York University School of Medicine in New York and undertook a Neuroradiology fellowship at the New York University Medical Centre.

Over the years Meng has also been involved with many US and international professional organisations, including President of the American Society of Spine Radiology and President American Society of Functional Neuroradiology.  Meng’s major areas of research interest include the ageing brain and Alzheimer’s Disease, AI, big data science and machine learning, advanced neuro MR imaging techniques, molecular imaging, traumatic brain injury and imaging in spaceflight. Being an avid teacher, clinician and investigator, he has published over 300 peer review papers and given over 1000 lectures worldwide, been awarded the Outstanding Teacher Award at the International Society of Magnetic Resonance in Medicine (ISMRM), the Award for Excellence by the Society of Neuro-oncology (SNO), the Distinguished Investigator Award from the Academy of Radiology and Biomedical Imaging Research and recently a Fellow of the American Society of Functional Neuroradiology.

Shalini A. Amukotuwa, M.D.
Invited Lecture Speaker & Expert Panel Member

I am a neuroradiologist and head of neuroradiology and MRI at Monash Health.  I did my basic radiology training and MRI fellowship in Australia, and further training in neuroradiology at Stanford Hospitals and Clinics in California.  I also have a PhD in perfusion and artificial intelligence in cerebrovascular disease.  My mission as an MRI radiologist is to advocate for access to MRI for all patients.

Associate Professor Pramit Phal
CEO of Epworth Medical Imaging and Radiology Victoria

Assoc. Prof. Pramit Phal, is the CEO of Epworth Medical Imaging and Radiology Victoria is a distinguished healthcare leader and Consultant Radiologist. He serves on several key committees, including the Imaging Sonic Executive Committee and the Epworth Neurosciences Clinical Institute.

Pramit holds an MBBS from the University of Melbourne, where he ranked in the top 10%, and is a Fellow of the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Radiologists (FRANZCR). He also has a Diploma in Leadership and Management from Swinburne University and graduated in 2023 from the Australian Institute of Company Directors.

With expertise in neuroradiology, he is dedicated to improving medical imaging quality and patient care. Pramit is an active academic at the University of Melbourne, where he teaches and mentors medical students and future radiologists.

Wendy Strugnell, BSc(MIT), FISMRT
Cardiac MRI Services Manager, Queensland X-Ray

 

Wendy Strugnell is the Cardiac MRI Services Manager for Queensland X-ray. She is the current international Treasurer of the ISMRT and also the Executive Member of the ISMRT Australian National Chapter.
Wendy is a Fellow and Honorary Member of the ISMRT, an International Past President and Past Secretary and was awarded the Crues Kressel Award in 2013.

Kylie Walters, B App Sc MRT, MHSc.(MRI)
Senior MRI Radiographer, Princess Alexandra Hospital, Brisbane

Kylie commenced her career at the Royal Brisbane Hospital in 1992 after completing her Medical Imaging Degree at QUT. Kylie’s extensive experience in MRI started in London and has developed into her passion during her time working at Royal North Shore and Westmead Hospitals in Sydney, Qscan, Royal Brisbane and Women’s Hospital and the Herston Imaging Research facility In Brisbane and ongoing at Princess Alexandra Hospital. Kylie has a keen interest in both Research and Clinical MRI. Kylie has been involved in the ANZ Chapter of the ISMRT since 2012 initially as the Queensland Representative and has held the position of SMRT ANZ Secretary, SMRT ANZ President and is currently active in the AMPC for the ISMRT ANZ.

Sheryl Foster, MHlthSc. (MRS)(MRI), FISMRT, FHEA
ISMRT ANC Treasurer

 

Sheryl has several professional roles; she is the Senior Research Medical Imaging Scientist at Westmead Hospital, an academic in the Faculty of Medicine and Health at The University of Sydney and the Treasurer of the Australian National Chapter. Previous roles include ANZ Chapter President and Executive Member and a 6-year stint on the international ISMRT Board as Education Chair and Treasurer. Sheryl is a Fellow of the Society and received the Distinguished Service award in 2019.

Kylie Hood B. Med Rad, MHSc (MRS)
Head MRI Radiographer, Royal Adelaide Hospital & ISMRT ANC Treasurer-Elect

Kylie is the Head MRI Radiographer at the Royal Adelaide Hospital. She has 18 years’ experience in MRI across the UK and Australia, and gained her master’s degree in MRI from Sydney University in 2015. Kylie has a longstanding interest in MRI safety and has many years of experience in assisting clinicians to make risk/benefit decisions for off label scanning of passive implants, as well as the safe scanning of these.
