Professor Pia Maly Sundgren is the head of the Department of Radiology, Clinical Sciences/Lund, Lund University in Sweden, Co-Director for Lund University BioImaging Center, and senior consultant in neuroradiology at Skåne University hospital, LU, Lund. She holds an adjunct professorship in Clinical research at the Department of Radiology at University of Michigan. Her research focuses on advanced MR imaging both at 3T and 7T, with imaging research focused on monitoring treatment response and effects of radiation in brain tumors, advanced imaging in autoimmune diseases with special focus on SLE as well as in pain conditions. For advanced brain MRI she is an opinion leader and internationally recognized. She is a frequent invited faculty with a broad range of topics such as brain tumors and advanced imaging techniques, spine and pediatric neuroimaging topics, among others. She is the president of the ESNR, past president of the ISMRM 2018-19) and General Secretary of WFNRS, among other commitments. She is an active member of several research councils of various organizations in Sweden and Europe and in many international scientific and executive program committees. Prof. Sundgren has published over 180 papers and reviews, over 220 scientific abstracts, three books and several book chapters and has given over 340 international invited lectures and workshops worldwide. She supervises PhD students, master students and post-docs.

She received the Nelson Mandela Gold Medal by the RSSA in 2018, the MICHR Michigan Clinical and Translational Research Distinguished Mentor Award in 2014, the ISMRM Outstanding Teachers Award in 2016, and the Lund University Minerva Award for Academic Leadership in 2018. Her lecture will focus on the value of collaboration among members of ISMRM and SMRT to bring excellent research forward and the value of active mentorship and commitment.

Katja Pinker-Domenig, M.D., Ph.D., EBBI
Precision MRI of the Breast: Reality or Utopia?

Katja Pinker-Domenig, M.D., Ph.D., EBBI obtained her medical degree at the Medical University of Vienna in 2003. From 2005 until 2010 she was trained as a radiologist at the Department of Biomedical Imaging and Image-guided Therapy at the Medical University of Vienna. Her focus on breast imaging began right after completing medical school in 2003 when she joined the research team of the Division of Molecular and Structural Preclinical Imaging in Vienna, Austria. In 2014 she joined Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center (MSK) as a Visiting Researcher and in 2017 she was appointed as a Member, MH at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center (MSK), Attending Radiologist at Memorial Hospital for Cancer and Allied Diseases, and Professor of Radiology, Weill Medical College of Cornell University. She also serves as Affiliated Faculty at the Department of Scientific Computing at Florida State University, Tallahassee, USA. Her research interests focus on molecular breast imaging with magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) using multiple advanced MRI parameters and hybrid techniques, such as positron emission tomography (PET)/MRI for the development and improvement of imaging biomarkers of breast cancer. This evolved to a focus on implementing artificial intelligence approaches – with the overarching goal of enabling precision medicine in breast cancer imaging. She will discuss the exciting journey of breast MRI towards precision medicine moving from beyond morphology towards function. She will share her vision how this evolving field will enhance prognostic and predictive estimations, guide treatment selection and that shape the way of how we care for our patients.
