ISMRT Future Leaders Fellowship Initiative

The ISMRT Future Leaders is an initiative of the International Society for MR Radiographers & Technologists (ISMRT), in development with and supported efforts from the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation. ISMRT provides an international platform for education, information, and research for MR Radiographers and Technologists globally.

ISMRT Future Leaders initiative is to support MR Radiographers and Technologist in Africa, and other globally under-served countries by providing mentorship, support, and improved access to MRI education and training.

About

• The ISMRT Future Leaders Task Force was founded in June 2023 during the ISMRM/ISMRT conference in Toronto, Canada.
• The aim of the ISMRT Future Leaders initiative is to provide mentorship and support to develop MRI Educators and ISMRT Future Leaders in different regions across Africa.
• The goal is to develop region specific education and training programs to advance knowledge and improve access to MRI knowledge across Africa.

Key Duties of Future Leader Fellows

• Future Leader Fellows commit to aiding the development of educational meetings and opportunities to support members of their local MRI community.
• Fellows will assist in co-organising these monthly meetings with the support of the chair/ vice chair.
• Fellows will be expected to attend monthly Division meetings.
• Each year – Fellows will be expected to give an oral presentation at their local Division meeting focussed on a clinical case study, or an MRI research project.
• In the third year, the Fellow will be expected to submit an abstract to a conference such as the annual ISMRT conference with the aim of attending the conference either in person or virtually.

The goal of these duties will be to increase the engagement and representation of clinical and research MRI Radiographers currently in Africa, and reaching out globally in the wider MRI community.
